Oh, he is sitting right here.(one of them , anyway, there are two versions, and I don’t know where the smaller one is.) He is not high on the to-do list though. Because it is an “egg”, I’d need to plead hard to get him cast. We’ve got a “No more eggs” policy. Big eggs are nearly impossible to cast without deforming.

:squeak: for a hatching llama! Even if it is limited edition/production. :squeak: :squeak: Squeak!

I’m curious, what is it about the larger eggs that makes them hard to cast? In my limited experiance with casting, I would think they would be easier cause they wouldn’t have as many ‘ledges’ to peel out of the mould.

I thought I heard that it was hard to keep them “In shape” when pouring and that is why they don’t care much for the egg shape in the molding department. 😕

Yeah, that was it. The shell will not hold its shape 😕

                They’re hard to paint too.

We really don’t know what the problem is. We can’t figure out why they deform as they do. One problem was that the large oval shape of the egg would sag into the mold, so that the egg would come out slightly pudgy at the bottom. This problem was solved somewhat, by reinforcing the mold, but they still continued to come out with strange deformations elsewhere.

Reptile eggs are normally misshapen aren’t they?
Not sure about llama eggs though 😆

Does this include the royal hatchers? Are they hard? Are they slated to be on the “no more” list? 🙁

which molding tecnique are you guys using? We cast gypsum into thin walled, one-piece rubber molds. The rubber molds are very floppy and heavy, so a mold the shape of a large egg would tend to collapse into itself while sitting empty. The weight of the liquid gypsum should press the mold out, back into shape again, but doesn’t do it perfectly. Here is a link to a pic in my gallery of a glove mold. There are other pictures of our molds in my gallery too..(I can’t get the images to post here for some reason..)

Lets just say the mold dept isn’t missing them a whole lot.
