Hey, just a heads up. Esspecially for those with large collections.
I just talked to my insurance people about my rather large (approaching 100) and expensive collection. He said it’s a good idea to add them and you need either bills of sale or an appraisal to “Prove” to the insurance people that they really are worth that much. And keep records!
Not sure how insurance works in the states but thought some of you might want to look into it!
I just got a “You have a package” thingy from the post office and with my Labradorite Griffy coming, the whole insurance thing popped into my head.

July 5, 2007 at 8:16 pm #595261Yeah, this has been brought up before. Some people all ready have extra insurance on their collections.
July 5, 2007 at 8:46 pm #595262I’m SO happy I thought to keep all my receipts and stuff…have yet to actually insure my stuff, though…it’s on the long “to-do” list!! >_<

He didn’t arrive today. It was *only* curlies and a Poad 😀
July 6, 2007 at 12:38 am #595267For receipts and stuff, if you bought through Paypal, you should have the online record of everything. For whatever you got in-store, that’s another story entirely! But yes, I should start looking into it too, though my collection isn’t nearly as big as that.
Read my books! Volume 1 and 2 of A Dragon Medley are available now.

I host the feedback lists, which are maintained by drag0nfeathers.

Even though I have my original store receipts, some of my pieces are worth quiet a bit more now than when I bought them.
July 6, 2007 at 2:18 am #595269We insure 4 Collector Cars with American Collector’s Insurance and they also insure collectibles like Windstones. I checked with them the other day.
You regular homowners won’t cover expensive collectibles. I am planning on starting a policy with them this fall. For my Windstones, Books and Die Cast collections.
We are happy with them as far as the cars go. I have about 70k worth of cars on stated value policies and it only costs me about $1000 per year…which is fantastic!
July 7, 2007 at 12:37 am #595270I never thought about this before but it sounds like a good idea – like I carry flood ins. on the house and content. Also I live in Hurricane Alley. I do take a picture of each new one and keep the memory card where it is safe. I do the same with everything in the house. I’ll have to talk to my insurance company about a rider because living in FL it is very hard to get any kind of house insurance and the deductibles are very high

Exactly, Insuring collectibles is like insuring jewelry. I am planning on getting a policy this fall. American Collectors doesn’t even need pictures unless a particular piece is worth $2000, no matter what the total collection value is insured for.
July 7, 2007 at 2:04 am #595272Holy crap! 😯 $70K in cars! What do you have?
Husband has ~$50K in cars & I keep telling him no grief for me collecting dragons, as the car he bought last year was $9000. -
