Any one thing you wanted, what would it be? I think I would create world peace.

That’s a tough one. World peace, in my mind, is an impossibility, even for wishful thinking. I suppose I’d like to go back to the 1860s and give the South the means to defeat the Northerners. That way the States would have stayed away from centralization and this ensuing imperial hegemony. But maybe that would just have prolonged the rise and made for a harder fall.
I’d like to give Switzerland back its pre-1999 lack of gun laws, when anybody – except the foreigners – could walk around with whatever they wanted and I didn’t need a special permit for a non-SIG automatic.
Basically it’s all political. Then again, everything happens for a reason, and man usually isn’t as smart as he thinks he is, especially when he tries to improve on the status quo. I could also do as Luther suggested:
“And if I knew the world would end tomorrow, I would still plant my apple tree.” In other words, carpe diem and do my duty, step by step.
But that’s a good question, Ski. I’ll probably think about its implications for the rest of the day. πJune 26, 2007 at 12:18 pm #592486So in other words, if you could change one thing, it would be political reform. π
As for me, assuming world peace is unobtainable, my wish would be to end hunger. If the world was free from hunger, that might make Ski’s and GB’s goals a bit more obtainable. π

June 26, 2007 at 12:43 pm #592488Oh yeah….the world needs super models. π π
June 26, 2007 at 12:47 pm #592489Just cuz food would be available for all doesn’t mean you’d have to eat it π

Well, she said she wanted to end world hunger.
June 26, 2007 at 12:52 pm #592491Hunger for food. If guys want to ‘hunger’ for super models, no wish of mine will stop them. π π

Ah! I didn’t realize you meant it so literally! π

I dunno. I just can’t see the sense in wishes like that. Every problem is tied up in a thousand others. I think I’m too deep in the politics to even take the second to wish for a certain betterment. Consequences and fringe factors immediately pop up in my mind, showing what else would have to change…
June 26, 2007 at 5:40 pm #592495I guess that’s why things always stay the same. Change is too complicated.
June 26, 2007 at 5:44 pm #592496Mm, I disagree. Change is complicated, but it happens a lot, and faster and faster, and usually for the worse. Cycle by historical cycle.

Yeah, civilizations come and go. I just don’t want to be here when this one goes.
