This woman is supposed to disgust you
(Link leads to an article with photo of lady clad only in strategically placed rose petals. May not be safe for some workplaces.)
I read this, and it just blew my mind. That girl pictured? She is hot! I am straight, and I think she’s hot. I mean man… she is totally beautiful, and we’re supposed to not want to look like her? If eating diet yogurt keeps me from looking like that, I’ll swear off of it forever!
I think advertising has totally lost touch with reality. They’re surrounded by little stick models, and they forget that some people like ’em thin, and some people like ’em with meat on their bones, and really some people like ’em pretty much any way they come.
This just blew my mind, and I wanted to go tell everybody. The advertising industry has totally lost it!

June 21, 2007 at 5:32 am #591363Yes, I know. Fixied. I just pasted from my lj and forgot that there’s a different format here.
June 21, 2007 at 6:41 am #591364I say forget the advertisements anyway for just about everything. If the products need comparing, read a review or buy one of each and figure out for yourself which ones you like best.
And as far as low-fat food goes – I avoid it on principle. I like my chocolate and cheese. The best way to keep in shape is excercise.June 21, 2007 at 6:42 am #591365Dang… I cant see the pics, but this guys reply had me rolling! (Edidted the cuss words)
I’m not a man, but ZOMFGWTFFTWBBQQWERTY that girl is dead f-ing sexy. And she looks delighted to be naked but for a few strategically placed rose petals. Wow. If we’re supposed to go “Ew ick fat fatty fat fat!” their efforts have backfired. At least for me. And as DrNick (Hi, Doctor Nick!) has shown, I’m not the only one.
Now I’m going to think about being all sticky and covered in rose petals all afternoon. I’m not sure whether to curse you or thank you.
😆 I wanna see the pics!
June 21, 2007 at 6:42 am #591366Wow! I only wish our regular advertising would show well rounded women like that as sexy. (I am completely ignoring what they are advertising there.) I agree with you SPark, that strategy is completely bizarre, but then again it is a different culture. I am probably missing something.
I would like to hear what some men think of that ad compaign. When I was in Europe it was funny what types of ads were considered “normal”.
For example, in Denmark, some political ads (posters) actually showed canidates without make-up, air brushing, or even their hair combed. It was in such stark contrast to our slick ads here in the States, but I think we have been conditioned too much to believe what we see. (And forget that it is an illusion.)

That’s one heck of a cuss word. 😆
June 21, 2007 at 7:47 am #591368Heee. Here, I’ll translate. ZOMFG = Oh my *beeping* gosh. WTF = What the *beep* FTW = For the win, and BBQQWERTY is the point at which he loses control of his typing skills completely, he’s so excited.

What does “for the win” mean?

Thanks, SPark, but I have to echo Ski’s question…
June 21, 2007 at 10:57 am #591371Uhm… it’s a gamer thing. Comes from saying “Doing X thing for the win!” That is, something that will cause you to win the game. But kind of gets used for all kinds of other stuff now, and tends to be used as a “single” term rather than a phrase, so it results in really odd grammar. Also, of course, one gets “for the lose” which is when somebody has been really stupid. Such as “Not double boxing for the lose!” Also is often deliberately, ironically misspelled, “for teh win” and “for teh lose” which mocks the tendency of gamers to have bad typing skills. See also leet, haxxor, and lolcat.
June 21, 2007 at 11:01 am #591372Ahh! Ok. I think I get it. Kinda like in Craps when they say ‘for the win’, or even horse racing… I think… Thanks! 😀

I just learned more here than I did over the past year, I think! Thanks for the info.
And yes, the ads are not working for me either. That first picture is actually very beautiful. The first thing I thought was “Wow, they’re saying that if I eat this, I’ll look like her?”, so the opposite of what they were trying to accomplish. That thin thing is getting old…
