Hello Melody!
I have ordered several items from the Windstone shop in the past, and I’ve been curious as to why there is no option to check as to whether or not you would like your piece to be signed.
Sure, most would appreciate a signed piece, but for people whose budgets are broken if they endeavor to buy so much as a single piece a month, it would be nice to opt for an unsigned, less expensive piece.
I saw that the black gold curlie is $10 less than its counterparts because of the lack of a signature. That $10 can mean a lot! And to me, whether a piece is signed or unsigned is no matter. I choose to purchase a piece because it appeals to me, not because it has a signature attached to it.
So hopefully you will consider adding in an option for unsigned versions of the same pieces offered in the shop. 🙂 Just an idea I thought I would throw out there.
No offense meant to any of you who go gaga for the signed pieces. Signatures just don’t matter that much to me. 😉

The black gold curled dragon is not limited production, and may someday be sold in stores. There’s no limit to the number of them that will be made.
So it’s not paying for the signature, it’s paying for the rarity of the piece. The signature is just a bonus.
(I’m not hugely fussed about signed pieces, but I definitely care about rarity! Although I do like the signature. And I am tickled that I have a signed Flion, which far as I know is the only signed Flion out there.)

I thought all the curlies were limited production. 😕
Oh well.

No, the Black Gold coiled dragons are regular production. That is why they are not signed. 🙂
Spark has it right. The cost difference is not because of the signature, but because of the different levels of production.Volunteer mod- I'm here to help! Email me for the best response: nambroth at gmail.com
My art: featherdust.comJune 17, 2007 at 5:59 pm #589972I just wonder why the black curlies, being regular production, aren’t in the stores yet?
June 17, 2007 at 8:36 pm #589973Alright, I get it now.
Hehe, now I feel silly.
But I am curious… why are all the other curlies limited production?
edit: typo…
June 17, 2007 at 9:51 pm #589974The folks at Windstone have to carefully consider what to put into production and what not to…
They have to keep in mind that production pieces are intended for retail stores to buy/sell and Windstone does not depend on their store here, online, to sell their pieces. The retail stores are what keeps Windstone alive as a business. So they must market what they think most people might purchase in a retail gift shop, and base many of their decisions on what they know sells well. They also have to be careful not to put out ‘too much’ at once for a retail store, which can sometimes be as harmful to sales as ‘too little’.
That’s only part of the decision making process. 🙂
Edit: I should also mention that the smaller the sculpture, the longer it takes for them to paint (and therefore is more expensive to produce). Since it would be bad business to try and sell a smaller product for more money than a larger one, it seems logical that the larger coiled dragons fulfill the production call for smaller pieces. I hope that makes sense. 🙂

I think I won’t sign new limited production pieces from now on, and we will sell them at regular prices. I will just sign the special stuff that is either Artist’s edition peices, or special stuff that we auction.
June 19, 2007 at 10:49 pm #589977I bet you’re pretty sick of signing hundreds of pieces anyhow!
Though this makes me kind of glad I got as many signed limited production pieces as I did already. *grins* While I mostly am interested in the art itself, the signature does add a little something special to a piece.
