Found this on Ebay – certainly looks like a prototype to me. And a steal for the price!

Well, certainly those of us who know what we have, and want to get a decent price for it would keep such documentation, and list it. But I’m rather suspecting this person has no idea what they have. I can make out some of the extra marks and dings that the prototypes have that the regular production don’t. Plus it’s signed. (Yes, I know that signatures can be forged. But the marks on the dragon, not so much)
Certainly does look a bit shady, though.
EDIT: Just re-read the auction listing. He does have a letter of authenticity. Guess it is the real thing.
May 23, 2007 at 4:26 pm #579816I want a proto!! 🙁
May 23, 2007 at 4:34 pm #579817If I don’t like the emerald peacock old warrior coloration, I’m going to have a go at him. I really want a prototype, and I doubt any more buy-it-now prototypes will ever be sold.
May 23, 2007 at 4:50 pm #579818Good luck, zorse. I wonder what he’ll go for…

There has not been a buy it now prototype yet… unless you were talking about this one before someone bid.
I will be watching it. I am curious to see what it goes for since so many people are looking.

Good luck! With all the talk about this particular seller, you might end up with a good deal. I’d just encourage paying with Paypal for a little added security.
May 23, 2007 at 6:54 pm #579821well, someone has bid. and they do accept paypal now. not sure if they changed it from not having paypal. only the description has been revised. did i miss something when you all were saying this auction would only accept cash? oh, they say paypal is the last payment they accept. but, they accept it. so, if they offer it, they have to accept it.
May 24, 2007 at 2:35 am #579822heres a good question… if it was a prototype, wouldn’t melody have written “prototype” on the bottom since they are special? also, wouldn’t it have been number in pen also on the bottom, say #13/50 or something like that? folks who have prototypes: what is on the bottom of yours? i don’t have one to know any better, but i thought they had more that just a signature on the bottom with those….hmm. 😕 seems fishy to me…wierd.
May 24, 2007 at 2:44 am #579823the auctioner emailed me back and told me there was no gap between the head and the wings.
May 24, 2007 at 3:07 am #579824innnnnnnnnnnnteresting…….
May 24, 2007 at 4:28 am #579825Okay, that is very strange. I can understand why it wouldn’t be numbered. 340 prototypes were painted in peacock, but only 50 of them were sold as such and the rest were repainted into limited editions and OOAKs. It’s possible Melody didn’t number the prototypes she sold in the original coloring because there were more than 50 made.
But on the pic the OW has the scratched chest, the extra damage on the belly, but it’s hard to tell about the gap between head and wings. We could ask Melody…May 24, 2007 at 5:16 am #579826My emerald prototpye OW isn’t numbered. I think they didn’t number the batches of 50 in peacock and emerald.
