My flion just sold and when I sent an invoice to the buyer she (I assume she) told me she’d have the money around mid-June!!! I really can’t wait that long and I don’t want a bad rating for not being helpful but arent there payment rules or something? Her rating is 0 so I can’t really look to see if she actually pays her sellers….
May 18, 2007 at 6:42 pm #491023May 18, 2007 at 6:45 pm #578509I would tell her if she doesn’t have the money now that you are going to relist the flion and give her bad feedback. That is just stupid of him/her to think its ok to bid on an auction that they don’t have the money for.
May 18, 2007 at 7:02 pm #578510First of in your auctions do you state what your time frame for receiveing payment? All my auctions state I expect payment within 10 days of close. That may affect how things go.
May 18, 2007 at 7:02 pm #578511you should be sure to put a “payment must be recieved by” statement in your auction to avoid this very problem. You might try telling her you need payment before then and if she can’t pay tell her you need to relist it?
May 18, 2007 at 7:02 pm #578512😯 Wow…. I know you didn’t specify when you expected payment, but that’s ridiculous. I’d go with purpledoggy’s suggestion (or do a Second Chance for ddvm), but maybe also tell her she should assume in the future that most sellers won’t wait more than 10 days for payment, if they don’t specify less.
I know she’s new, but didn’t she ever really *look* at auctions before bidding on one? Most sellers go with the same rules. She should’ve emailed you to ask questions, as you mentioned on the auction. A month for payment… eBay isn’t a layaway site! 🙄
May 18, 2007 at 7:06 pm #578513My 0.02 would be to tell her to pay within 10 days and if she can’t you’ll sell it to the other bidder. Which would be moi and I would be more than happy to pay you what she bid! I meant to bid again but I forgot it was ending this morning 😳 So I realize my advice is completely self serving…
May 18, 2007 at 7:06 pm #578514I did some digging on eBay and there is no policy set by them on how long the buyer has to pay for the item. It is something determined by the seller, so definately for future purposes I’d figure out how long you are willing to wait for payment and state it in your auctions.
If you really don’t want to wait I might talk with her both of you agree to a neutral or no feedback on each other since the sale wasn’t completed.
May 18, 2007 at 7:21 pm #578515I’d write her and let her know that the time frame she is offering is unacceptable.
If she needed more time to get the funds, she should have contacted you before the auction ended and asked about it. I have done this in the past to good effect, I really wanted a bunch of books a seller had, but I was going to be broke until a few days after the payment due by date. So before I bid, I asked if she would mind waiting those extra few days if I won the auction. She agreed and I lucked out and won it.
But I asked first. Your bidder should have as well.
If she really wants that Flion, she’ll pony up, if not, relist him.

May 18, 2007 at 8:28 pm #578516Well…When I told her I could give her two weeks but I couldn’t wait much longer than that she said the absolute earliest she could pay was mid June and preferably the END of June….I emailed her again apologizing that I couldn’t wait such a long period of time and she got a little snotty and wrote back “well relist it then.” I don’t make a strict deadline because I like to work with people so they can get a piece they really like but I thought this long of a wait was stretching it…. Never did address the feedback issue but if she gives me a negative I suppose I’ll just deal with it…. 👿
May 18, 2007 at 9:07 pm #578517She is the one being unreasonable. I would either relist it or sell it to the next highest bidder. If she leaves negative feedback you can respond to it and say she didn’t want to pay till the end of June. No one will want to deal with her after that.
May 18, 2007 at 9:24 pm #578518I agree with Purpledoggy. Relist it or sell it to the next bidder. *wanted to bid on that myself but forgot to* And her getting snotty about it is unfair. For her to think that you’d hold the item for a month is unreasonable.
May 18, 2007 at 10:07 pm #578519If she does give you negative feedback, leaving something to the effect of ‘Bidder unwilling to pay for item until 4-6 weeks after auction close’ should be sufficient to back yourself up to others in the future and warn others of this new bidder.
If she doesn’t currently have a rating, she may have assumed (wrongly) that because ebay is not a store and because nothing said it in your auction, that she can bid on something and pay whenever she felt like (or some other reason… I’m not going to name call on the forum :P). It’s also possible she may have tried to back out in a few weeks time as well, in which case you never would have gotten your money.
I am in agreement on the relist or offer the item to the second highest bidder.
May 19, 2007 at 3:41 am #578520That was silly of her to think she could put you on hold for so long. Occasionally it happens the buyer doesn’t have funds – on a recent auction for a Unicorn Gargoyle I wrote to the seller asking for two weeks’ time to pay. I had just maxed my CC on two OWs and whatnot… He was very understanding, and thanks to star’s commission of Apeliotes I was able to pay earlier than the deadline. But I wouldn’t bid if I didn’t want to pay for 6 weeks!
May 19, 2007 at 3:58 am #578521I think that you should sell to the 2nd highest bidder — and since that was a forum member, you won’t have any problems.
If she knew that she wouldn’t be able to pay for such a long time, she should’ve checked with you prior to bidding to make sure that you’d be willing to wait so long.
