Hey guys, I was able to get Golden interference paints at Michael’s today. Yay!
So for those who have been trying to find it, Michael’s DOES carry them, the only color they don’t seem to have is red, not sure why.
My kirin bat wing project arrived today as well, and is in progress. Updates will be posted later, most likely tomorrow sometime.

May 12, 2007 at 12:20 am #574334yeah…they didn’t have red or orange when I went….but I got most of mine off of Amazon for like $4 less than michaels…
and the thing about michaels, most of their stuff is old…and doesn’t always work right…
but you’ll really enjoy them….then do take a min to get used to though…

Well, I added some of the green and gold to my red winged kirin, and man she looks good when you tilt her just right. otherwise you really can’t see a change, but it’s cool.
I am looking forward to seeing what happens with the vampire kirin, I plan to use the purple and blue interferences on that over black, should be really neat.

May 12, 2007 at 12:32 am #574336I’m glad you found them there, Kyrin. Unfortunately, I think it depends on which Michael’s location you go to that determines whether they carry Golden Brand. I’ve checked 4 different Michael’s in Massachusetts, and none of these stores carried it.
I’m a little envious; I wish they would start carrying it so I wouldn’t have to travel so far to an art supply store.

they are very bright over black….so you might want to try less..or when you put it on…put more black on top…
I’d try on scrap paper or something first…

I’ll experiment a little. I used some acrylic thinner when I did the kirin, and I think as long as I keep it thin, then it won’t be too loud, but then again, loud just might look really good, we’ll see.

May 12, 2007 at 2:13 am #574339Ditto Lokie. Depends on the store. I had to order mine online because no store remotely near me has any 😆
May 12, 2007 at 9:05 am #574340Mine had them- blue, green, gold and purple. What colors do they make them in?

Mine had them- blue, green, gold and purple. What colors do they make them in?
Blue, green, red, orange, violet, & gold (most in coarse & fine, but orange & violet in fine only).
On another note, are those your Australian shepards in your avatar? The one looks like my Perth and the other like her sister… 🙂May 12, 2007 at 11:48 pm #574342Red, hmm? I could use that! Too bad they don’t make a silver also.
Yep, those are (or were- both are gone now) my Aussies- Doomer was the red, and Pip the blue. She’s where I got my screen name. I’ve always had and still do have Aussies, my Mick girl now is Doomer’s neice. I saw your pretty red in the avatar!
Sorry mine is so huge! I made it as small as Photobucket would let me, and it’s still too big! I’ll delete it sorry. I’m a computer nincompoop, so I don’t know how to do any better.
May 12, 2007 at 11:53 pm #574343AAaahh! Don’t delete it! It was great! I don’t know too much about computers, but I can make it smaller for you so you can use it. Most of our pets are rescues, but I love my aussie dog. It was nice to see another doggie avatar…
May 13, 2007 at 11:23 am #574344I’ve learned something from experience. If the paint bottle (Golden Brand) has a white lid do not buy it. It’s old!
Micheals is too expensive for me. Plus I find they have old paint all the time. There is one in Waterloo (10 min. from me) but, they don’t carry Golden. The one in Cambridge does (25 min away by the express bus, hours away by any other route) but the paints are much cheaper through an art school in Guelph. Plus they are supper nice and the shipping rate isn’t that bad. I would love it if there was a bus connecting Guelph and Kitchener.

All of mine have white lids, but then Golden only uses white lids, but all of the paints are fine, not thick or clumpy, so I am not sure what you mean about old.
I paid $11.99 each, online at Dick Blick it was higher and I’d have had to pay shipping too, so not sure where you get that.
i do know that Canada pays a lot more than we do here in the states, so I’m not sure what you consider to be cheaper.
Anyway, now I just need red and orange.

I’m guessing you bought the 4 oz size, Kyrin? Because the fluid 1 oz on DickBlick is only $5 (I pay $6.50 + tax @ my semi-local fine art store and I consider $1.50 more a bottle expensive).
The Winsor & Newton paints I use on my PYOs are only $1.99 a tube online and $3.75 at my local Michael’s. Even with shipping cost, if I was going to make a large paint purchase, it would be much cheaper for me to buy online.
But it might depend on the Michael’s; the local one in your area, Kyrin, might sell paints cheaper than mine or other forum member’s.
