So now they have found another ingredient in pet foods that is tainted with chemicals. I’m so nervous about feeding my cat food from the store now. What in the world are we supposed to do? I would be devastated if something happened to my little Hobo kitty! I’m at the point I want to just feed him people food but I know thats no good for him either.

April 19, 2007 at 3:00 pm #564506Yeah but its not just wet food that is being recalled.
April 19, 2007 at 3:18 pm #564507Do you have a link to this information?
April 19, 2007 at 4:11 pm #564508What on earth has gone wrong up in quality control?? I hope they get this issue under control sooner than later…
My big Labrador is getting way more scraps than he needs, but he gets sick if all he eats is dry food. He’s diabetic, so he’s got eating issues anyway. We’re mixing in the bare minimum of human food he can keep the rest down with 😕
At least he’s not dead of liver/kidney failure like some of those poor pets.
April 19, 2007 at 4:19 pm #564509I have heard of some people cooking for their pets. Using real, natural ingredients. I don’t have any pets, so I can’t give any working advice on this. Here is a site that may help.

Here are news articles about cooking for pets:

April 19, 2007 at 9:45 pm #564510Cooking for your pets is very hard, feeding raw is much easier, as cooking removes many of the nutrients. feed a food with no grains, you have noticed that all the recalled foods first wheat gluten, then rice, now corn gluten. Here are a couple of foods that are grain free:

I feed the Orijen, my dogs are doing very well on it.BARF pre-mixed food:
http://www.urbanwolf.cc/If you do go with BARF do not tell your vet, very few will agree with it, because it is very hard to get the minerals and vitamins balanced. You also have to feed raw bones as well, weather ground or whole. It is very costly, 3 bucks or more per pound, keeping in mind it is wet, so a pound isnt that much food. I have fed it in the past, and my dogs still get raw bones, marrow bones, chicken, turkey, lamb, whatever I can find, but getting everything else in balance can be very hard, and it is very time consuming.
April 19, 2007 at 11:31 pm #564511I have the Joy of my cat refusing Human food and everything but Dry cat food and Polar Bears(the Drink not the animal), So far we seem to have lucked out, and my Mom’s feeding My Dally food that scares me already, God I can’t wait to get custody back.
April 20, 2007 at 12:15 am #564512Something you can cook for your cat (we did it before and it’s full of protein and carbs) white rice, boiled hamburger, and cottage cheese mixed together. It’s usually a concoction for sick of weak animals, but it’s perfectly safe for them to eat. Though they may gain a little weight from all the carbs.
I’ve just been feeding my cat’s Fancy Feast. (hard and soft) So far it seems to be one of the only petfoods I haven’t seen on any lists and all my cats are doing pretty well with it. There not acting weird or lethargic like it’s comtaminated. It’s realyl scary though. Now we are wondering if that’s why Bubbas got sick in the first place a few months ago!

-J R R TolkienApril 20, 2007 at 11:38 am #564515Not so far, but now that rice and corn have been added to the list of affected grains, I really feel a grain free menu is the way to go.
April 21, 2007 at 1:22 am #564516Plese ignore my ignorance. I don’t normally watch the news…
What pet food is being recalled, and what are the signs? My dog started barfing more than usual, he eats Dad’s. I just bought him a bag at Walmart, and there was a sign there about how they are taking care of the situation.
I feel Mr. Kitty Purina hardfood. All the canned food we have is at least 3 months old. It’s hard to feed it to him, with the dog, and the curious baby, and the husband….. 😕
Off to go read the links…
April 21, 2007 at 1:28 am #564517You can go to the FDA website too. I looked last night and Purina was okay. No recalls of Purina food that I could see. 🙂
