I know Windstone does not encourage repainting of production peices.
That said, I have a mama dragon here that was smashed to peices. I have managed to sculpt most of the stuffs back on, and hopefully tomorrow she’ll be all done. She’s taken forever, and everytime I do something big, like a large scale, i set her down til the next day because otherwise I just KNOW my fingerprints will end up all of the new scale.
SO. Here’s my thoughts. She’s pretty beat up, missing paint, chipped, dinked, ect. So, I’m wanting to repaint her, and I want to do something WOW. really 😯 😯 Awsomeness on top of wickeness.
So I’m looking for thoughts. Whatever I end up picking I’m going to do a dry run on my PYO dragon coming Friday. Whatever it is will have to go with the blue eyes/light crystals. I had thought something like rainbow wings, black trim, gree body, but that may not be ENOUGH. Know what I mean? I really want to do something cool with her, since I’ll never be doing one again most likely.
I wasn’t really sure where this “went”, so if it needs moved, move away 😀
April 13, 2007 at 4:46 am #561773Sounds cool! I’ve been wanting to do a repaint for quite a long time now, but I can never seem to find something damaged enough to warrent repainting one.
Hmmm, Raimbow wings with black and green sounds really cool actually. Mayle a really bright green with some darker ones for shadowing, like hunter and forest green. I’d maybe highlight it with one of the more prominate colors you add to the wings so it will bring all the colors together. The good thing is that blue eyes go well with basically everything. 😀

It should make it look like a dark dragon that shows bright iridesence of those colors only when the light hits them right.
April 13, 2007 at 1:30 pm #561775Awsome. I think she’s gonna be just wicked cool. I wonder what color eye I have coming from Windstone on that dragon. I’d like to do a good dry test run first to work out the kinks. She’s just got so much more space, and creative ablity. I’m so excited.
April 13, 2007 at 6:19 pm #561776Sounds great! Post pics after you start it =D

bluepony78? nope. Many moons ago I had to create my hotmail account, and I was having a brain freeze. I had a blue peter stone pony on the shelf, and since bluepony was taken, i became bluepony78
April 13, 2007 at 9:15 pm #561780I suggest basecoating her black. That way everything is going onto the same color canvas. You could do white, but with the darker colors suggested by everyone, the black would make more sense. Also, you can get a really nice depth to your paint job with black, not sure why, just know it is true.

I normally go light to dark, have you tried using black? Are you talking about antquing her? Oh…that might look slick. With the black skin, and green scales….

Most of what I paint starts out with a base coat of black. Hmmm….let me find some of my old ceramic dragons I’ve done that way for an example…http://www.kyrinslair.com/Dragon2s.jpg, this one of course is a black dragon…so he’s not a great example..I guess I need to take some pictures of the ones I’ve painted for my brother…LOL!
Anyway, I’ve found that pearl paints look really neat on top of black, try it on some paper and see what I mean.

I use the pearl colors a lot, on everything. I acutally make all my spending money painting decorator model horses, with black bases, then diferent body colors They look gorgious.
I got a little dragon in today, I’m going to take a stab at him with what I think I want to do with mama. Won’t look as perfect, becasue he has red eyes(I just asked for whatever color they had lying around). I got finsh the couple I’m wroking on first though. I have a rule, can only work on 3 pYO’s at atime 🙄

All my ceramics I base coat black as well, but that because I drybrush. I seem to notice wet blending and antiquing seem to have a much better affect on gypsum, so I base coat light and work my way to dark… but that’s just my personal preferance. Drybrushing on these, I seem to have alot of trouble with paint peeling. Especialy on repaints.

i’m not much of a dry brusher. I’m looking to do the “grunt work” with my airbrush. I am thinking, airbrushing the wings rainbow, and the scales. I have a rainbow griffin here I’m working on I am thinking I might use to learn to antque(what the heck color do you antque a rainbow??). The little dragon I got in yesterday I’m going to basecoating black, and antquing rainbow, and see what kind of results I get. One this is for sure, I’m not doinganythign to mama til I have it down pat, since you can’t just call up windstone and order her 😀 -
