I just saw this piece live today and wondered if you were aware of it’s existence…

It’s really lovely in person and it looks like you could get a good deal on ebay. The one I saw in a store was selling for 650.00 US$.

I’ve asked about wyverns before. This one is pretty cool, but I don’t like the equine head.

I like nearly all things draconian- but he’s a little out of my price league! 😉
          Neat link though!!

That’s nice, but I’ve never seen a wyvern with front legs instead of back ones. 🙂

I know! I was window shopping for some nice china and went into a store that also carried collectibles… and immediately fell in love with the Royal Crown Derby paperweights: http://www.royal-crown-derby.co.uk/products/product-range/collectables/paperweights/

Let me tell you though, I am NOT about to pick up another expensive collection!!! 😯

But they really are very nice 😀

That’s not a wyvern; I believe it’s the sea horse thing like Melody was planning. I just can’t think of the name… hypocampus?

Read my books! Volume 1 and 2 of A Dragon Medley are available now.

I promise it is a wyvern, it’s called The Wessex Wyvern, by Royal Crown Derby, it’s a heradlic piece, see here: http://www.goviers.co.uk/heraldic.html

Although I will admit that I also thought sea horse when I first saw it.

A hippocampus usually has the front part of a horse’s body, I think. 😕

Well, they may call it a wyvern, but it’s not my idea of one. But then every artist has their own interpretation. I’ve seen a number of griffins with lions feet on all 4 also. 😯

They sure are beautiful. I would love a baby dolphin, but even the second quality ones are expensive:-/

Yep, they have some nice paperweights…but I can’t get into another expensive collection right now either.

ooooh, very nice. I’ll have to have a looksie and find a place that has some up in the Montreal area or something (or maybe when I go to Scotland this fall, but Montreal is MUCH closer at 3.5 hours by car/train/bus :P). I don’t think anyone locally sells them here. I really like about 3-4 of them 😀 I want the wolf, one of the squirrels, and the polar bear. The dolphin and penguin with chick are kind of kewl too!

Yes, that is the wyvern for the heraldry for Wessex, England and flys on their flag (http://www.zyworld.com/wessexsociety/Merchandise.htm and http://www.crwflags.com/fotw/flags/gb-wessx.html). It was the symbol for the Kings of Wessex (Alfred the Great is probably the most recognizable on this side of the pond). Heraldically speaking, it is indeed considered a wyvern.

                      Hope this helps!

Thanks Nirvana. We’ve had our art and science lessons for today. 😆
