Just finished! This is done in pastels, as usual, as well as a bit of golden acrylic. I started at the head and did the bird body first, layer upon layer of pastel dust to get it just right. Then I moved onto the wings. Again, I *thought* I knew I wanted to use a strippy pattern. Again, they just didn’t want to work with me. I’m mostly happy with how they turned out. Then, I did the cat portion, paying special attention to the tail and leg areas to be sure they stayed light. After all that I moved onto the claws and beak. I did 2 coats of an antique copper paint on the beak & claws. Then on the beak I added a thinned out gold to add shimmer and did another 6 or 7 coats of pastel dust to tone down the copper. Overall, I’m very happy with how he turned out. Here is just quickie photo, his photo shoot is scheduled for tomorrow.

March 26, 2007 at 12:44 am #555671He does look like a toasted Marshmellow! I love the color so much. He is so soft looking. And the beak is great…it really stands out to me.
However I hope you will paint more than just the first feather with the bands. The bands on just one feather look…lonely.March 26, 2007 at 12:49 am #555672see now I want roasted marshmallows….

March 26, 2007 at 2:00 am #555675Mmm, looks like the cream swirling on top of my hazelnut coffee… delicious! All smooth and nice and pastel-like. I luv it!
March 26, 2007 at 2:08 am #555676How pretty! I like him!
While hiding somewhere in my head I'm on the lookout for white oriental dragons! Please let me know if you know of any available. Thank you!
March 26, 2007 at 4:36 am #555677Asinnamon, you’ve proved it again – you’re the master of brown. 😀 I like him a lot, but like Whippet said, I’d probably band the other pinion feathers, too.
March 26, 2007 at 10:56 am #555678Beautimus! I love the natural colors!
March 26, 2007 at 1:50 pm #555679He’s really pretty, asinnamon! But I think I agree that the one banded feather looks lonely. It looks like it worked okay, though. If you did the other long feathers, it would blend in better. Great colors!!!
March 26, 2007 at 2:07 pm #555680Oh…I think he is lovely just the way he is!!!! Toasted marshmellows… 😀
March 26, 2007 at 2:55 pm #555681Oh gosh! I really hadn’t planned on banding the other pinions. They ‘pop’ more in the pics I think then they do in real life. I’ll stare at him today and see if I can make up my mind…I have 4 more PYOs that are roaring & neighing to climb out of thier boxes too.
I’m starting to think the beak is too dark??
