It just hit me a couple of weeks ago… I’ve been listing the price according to wether or not the items were mint, but I didn’t use any other distinguishing criteria. And it’s come to my attention that listing the BINs with the regular auctions distorts the results!
The best example of this is the White Lap Dragon, if I were to give the average selling price with all the data that I have, it would be $230.00, in reality average auction price is $185.00, but a BIN of $329.99 brings the average up.
I’m wondering if its really worth it to start over of if I should just scrap the whole thing π‘
March 12, 2007 at 1:01 am #550933I’d hate to see you scrap it. Could you keep this database and in the meantime start a new one separating BINS from auctions? In time, you’d have enough data to switch over to the new database completely. In the meantime, can you salvage some of the data from the original database and enter it into the new one? Those are my thoughts. I think your database is very helpful to all of us.
March 12, 2007 at 1:56 am #550934Yes, I appreciate the database as well. It gives us an idea of what things go for.

Well, I went ahead and started that. And like you said, I didn’t scrap my first one yet… might be useful for a while.
As for salvage, I though about it and I don’t want to try it because it isn’t always obvious what is a BIN and what is regular auction.
So my new database will date back to March 1st, 2007 and since I was starting another one, I decided to do a monthly listing.
But the old less accurate one is still available for a while if you have any questions.
March 12, 2007 at 2:25 am #550936Sounds like a great plan. π
March 12, 2007 at 2:33 am #550937I agree! π
March 12, 2007 at 7:56 am #550938I think you should keep it. While BIN may throw it off a bit, someone is still paying it. I love your database. It has come in handy on multiple occasions. Mint is just something to go by.
March 12, 2007 at 2:53 pm #550939I sthe data posted somewhere? I just PMd you with some questiosn, but if they values are somewhere I could go peek instead of bothering you, LMK π
March 12, 2007 at 7:39 pm #550940No, it’s not posted anywhere else. It’s just a database that I started for my own info and entertainment π And I justify the obsession by offering the info to people who wanted it here! π
I saw your PM bluepony, but I’m at work and it’s at home so I’ll respond tonight.
