Is anybody else getting tired of money grubbing companies whose CEOs will murder their customers before selling their yacht?

My own bill went from $64 to $104, and I just can’t *wait* to see what this month’s bill is going to be when it gets here. And my coworker’s bill (who works with me at JCPenney) jumped to $400.

That’s not a rate increase, that’s an attack. I’d rather not have to sell Windstones to pay my power bill. That’s ridiculous. Sort of makes me worry a bit about the folks on a fixed income who have to budget carefully getting whacked.

I completely feel ya! My water bill was 30 a month…and it jumped to 70 a month with only 30 days notice! It’s crazy! And their limit was 600 gallons..and they lowered it to 400. Now that is not much. I do not water my lawn nor do I wash my cars at home…and I am really close to the limit! There are only 2 of us. God help me when I get a kid!!!

It’s the same way here. They seem to increase rates whenever they feel like it, and then want those of us who can afford it to donate money for those who can’t. If it keeps going this way, no one’s going to be able to afford to light or heat their houses.

          Limit?

do you have to pay more when you get to that limit or something?

I’m amazed at what other states make you pay for….

Yeah, our water and electricity doubled in price recently. We already pay about 300 every two weeks in the winter to heat our home, and thats just to keep it warm enough so the pipes don’t burst.

With ours once you pass a certain limit, you have to pay an even higher rate per gallon. I’m guessing that’s what whippet means.

My water bill is actually the cheapest. $18.70 and I think that’s the minimum. It’s all I pay every month.

I’m just astounded at the audacity of Ameren. When they talked about this, they said “26-55%’ tops, over the course of the year.

What we are actually getting is 100, 200, 300% increases smacking people across the face. Electricity is kind of essential around here in the dead of winter and the heat of summer. During spring and fall it’s not so bad, we can just throw open the windows like I’ve done now. But during the summer, A/C is essential, or people suffer of heat exhaustion and die.

And how do you ask an elderly person to choose between the doctor, their meds or their power bill? Or a single mom to choose between food for her kids, clothes for her kids or her power bill?

Fortunately Springfield was immediately screamed at by people, so they’re working on a bill to rollback the rates and reinstate the freeze that ended and started this mess.

What ticks me off the most in the meantime is that Ameren, whose profits steadily grew during the freeze, is whining that they need to charge these rates or they’ll go bankrupt.

How about not giving your CEOs their $17mil raise, huh? I, personally, am not keen on this society turning into the ‘haves’ and the ‘have nots’. I like being middle class, thanks.

yeah they don’t cut off the flow…you just have to pay more!!!

Yep. Just like here in Florida.

our CEO that retired a couple years ago was making $31 Million a year plus stock options. Just disgusting

That’s some increase, Rusti! Prices aren’t climbing over here – they were high to begin with. 😆

Wow, now I don’t feel so bad. My power is over $100 and that includes water, trash pick up, etc. That is one of the reasons I like living where I live. I hate Utah power (not the company I am using and soooo glad), which I think changed their name to something else.

I don’t even want to look at my electric bill anymore. Last year they de-regulated the power company and they raised our rates 72%. This year they said they are going to raise it another 50%. As it is I can’t pay the bill I have now. I went a year on a single income waiting for my husbands disability to go thru. Now my bills is over $1000 and my monthly bill went from $70 to over $200. I get turn off notice after turn off notice and I try to tell the power company that my husband is on oxygen and we need the power to stay on. They don’t care and try to shut me off anyway. I’m trying to see if we qualify for some kind of assistance but I make too much money. If I made too much money I wouldn’t have a $1000 electric bill 👿
