So, I try to lightly wipe down my windstones once a year. I just use a paper towel with a light spritz of plain old water. Everything went fine, till I got to my ruby lap dragon. When I wiped him down, I had red/pink staining on my paper towel. Is this common with the rubies? I just want to know that I’m not damaging my dragon and won’t eventually wipe all the colour accents off. This hasn’t happened to any of my other colours of dragons. Any thoughts or suggestions…

March 2, 2007 at 12:11 am #545788Well the older ones (green and brown)are not…if I remember correctly. The newer ones are suppose to be.
March 2, 2007 at 12:16 am #545789The one time I tried the damp paper towel treatment the very same thing happened — and on another ruby lap, at that. I’ve since done something I promised never to do and actually paid for air. My brother will never let me live it down… I’ll let him do the dusting since he likes to play with the canned air so much 🙂

It is best to not get them wet. Canned air and a soft brush is what we recommend. Don’t wash them, like I do.
Those rubies… argh..
We had some trouble with the older ruby paint bleeding, it isn’t supposed to do that anymmore! It is an auto paint, and is supposed to be able to take any amount of water and sun. We didn’t find it to be as bomb proof as the company claimed it to be! The pieces are well coated with a clear acrylic finish.March 2, 2007 at 12:38 am #545791dragonessjade wrote:Well the older ones (green and brown)are not…if I remember correctly. The older ones are also coated, but with a different type of finish. It wasn’t as glossy as the kind we use now.
March 2, 2007 at 12:41 am #545792Thanks for letting me know, I ‘ll switch to blowing air!
March 2, 2007 at 8:13 am #545793i used a paint brush and bit of water usually for cleaning, because in this house canned air won’t clean off the smoke tar :(. thanks for the warning on the rubies. i have one fledgi who’s in what i think may be the older paint much darker than the newer? ones, wich i don’t like as much as the dark. i may have to be super ubar carful about cleaning it then. no chance of getting dad to quit smoking, alas i’m not willing to ban them to storage till i can afford my own place, which with the way i spend money on collecting won’t be any time soon lol

March 2, 2007 at 8:00 pm #545797It is best to keep them inside a display case. They do get dusty in those too, but not nearly as bad as when they are free range in the house. I dream about having enough glass cases to keep stuff in!
March 2, 2007 at 8:31 pm #545798i dream about glass cases too .. and having a house big enough i can put them in lol. course then i’d go nuts because i want to touch my pieces not just look. i slept with a old peacock mother on my bed last night
