I was just wondering what made you come up with the idea of the Grimalkin Candlelamp and if there is a story behind it.

Well, as sometimes happens, I came up with the idea for the sculpture first, and then found out what it was later! (Like the Kirin) I wanted to do a shell- shaped sconce, something with a swirling cape that could light up behind the head to make a dark silhouette with glowng eyes. Originally, it was a human devil/demon-like thing, but since cats fit in the line better , it became a sort-of pixie/spirit/demon cat, which as it turned out, is called a “Grimalkin”. Perfect.

Sweet. Thanks for sharing. I normally don’t like the cat sculptures/candlelamps, but I think that is one I want to get.

Thanks for asking, dragoness! That’s the one catty thing from Windstone I want to get – that and the panther gargoyle.

The panther gargoyle is going the way of the unicorns and bookends. Windstone is out. I don’t know if they’ll make any more. If you find it somewhere else, get it.

          The Grimalkin is still available.

Thanks, emerald. I’m hoping for that panther on E-Bay, but first I need permission to bid from the seller.

Ah! Good luck. I hope they give you permission. What a pain in the neck that must be for you. I can’t believe people don’t want to send things overseas. It doesn’t matter to me as long as the buyer pays for shipping. And I would think that would be a given. Hunh. Sorry. Thinking out loud.

Well, it doesn’t happen often that something I want isn’t open to international bidders. And the auction has 5 days to go, so there’s no real rush… Do you know why some people don’t want international bidders, though? I’m not offended or anything when they don’t – just curious.

Personaly for me when selling on evilbay I usualy don’t alow it because of all the hastle with the post office. You have to know what to write on the customs forms so that the buyer doesn’t have to pay through the nose to customs, you have to know the rules for insured vs. priority. It gets really complicated, and for someone who doesn’t work ebay for a living, it can be hard to sit in the post office for 30-50 min trying to figgure out what is going on. If I know the person, or there is lots of prior communication I’m totaly willing to work around it. But long and short of it, it’s just easier to not allow international bidding. For me anyway. (I’m a lazy butthole who would rather be online playing games or chatting =P)

😆 I see. Thanks for explaining, Nirvana.

I always ship overseas but it does make me really nervous. When shipping in the US I can put delivery confirmation on the package. This way if some jerk on ebay decides to try and rip me off (or if something gets lost in the post) and say they never got it and want a refund, I have proof. Paypal will almost always side with the buyer unless the seller has proof they shipped something. Of course I save all post office receipts but unless it’s electronically recorded that parcel A went to person B then you can go through months of red tape. It’s a huge headache and when it’s a high dollar item it scares me because selling my work is my only income.
Not to mention when I ship within the US I can ship right from home, which is great since I don’t have a car and never know when I can get to the post office! 😉

So I can sympathize with sellers that are leery of overseas shipping.

That all makes sense. The panther seller immediately lifted the block when I told her I’d ask her to ship to a U.S. address, and I got to put in a bid. Now I hope I win him!

Your welcome GB. As you can probably tell yesterday after I read all the posts, I became bored so I had to think of things to say to keep me occupied. Good luck on the panther.

I would have to agree with Nam as far as international shipping goes. It is scary when you ship outside of the country because they can say they didn’t receive it. I would be out the money and the buyer would get money and the item.
