I have a brown mother and father I got and also a green mother. All of them are VERY dull, but the Male green and young green are vibrant and shiny. It’s weird. The worn ones must just be alot older. The brown ones don’t even have felt pads so they must be ancient.

February 13, 2007 at 6:48 am #538902I don’t think the older ones have a top coat on them.
February 13, 2007 at 7:04 am #538903My older brown male isn’t glossy at all. I think the earliest ones didn’t have top coats.
February 13, 2007 at 7:27 am #538904I asked this a while back, but I didn’t get an answer (but it was under general forum). My hatching empress doens’t really have a top coat either, and I can tell since the texture is grainy for the metallic paint.
February 13, 2007 at 8:35 am #538905If you needed gloss for a smaller project (hatching empress) you can email Karen and she can send you a small bottle of gloss.
February 13, 2007 at 8:47 am #538906I was just looking for a product similar enough to match the others I got in the set without damaging the paint. Sometimes it will spot, seperate, or decintegrate in patches. That would SUCK!

Admittedly that was mostly small areas, but still… (And I know what you mean. The first gloss coat I had was this stuff meant for model car painting, and it tended to lift up the paint underneath when you put it on!)
February 13, 2007 at 5:03 pm #538908I myself used Krylon gloss spray. There hasn’t been any adverse affects and that was 4 years ago…If that helps. 😉
February 13, 2007 at 5:11 pm #538909I refurbished my two Siamese flapcats. One needed a new ear sculpted and both needed touch-ups to the collar and gold accents. I finished them with Liquitex Medium and Varnish. They came out looking like brand new:)

The older dragons were finished with a different type of coating . It wasn’t as glossy. I am afraid that putting a different , more glossy finish on them would affect their value, since the dull finish is the way they are supposed to be, and a way of telling the old ones from the newer ones. But I think any spray gloss acrylic should work as a finish, be sure to clean them well first.
February 13, 2007 at 8:53 pm #538911Thanks Mel =) I’d never sell them anyways, chances are though I’ll end up leaving them as they are. If anything I may experiment on the brown mother since she was badly damaged in shipping anyway. 😥 If it works well then the others would probably soon follow.
And yes, I’ve had that problem when I sealed a bunch of dust in something before cause I forgot to clean it! “D’OH!”Got a busted Windstone?

Dreamscape, Orion, Poison Dart, Fireberry, Spangler + Tigerberry DragonsFebruary 17, 2007 at 6:09 am #538912i have had problems using spray gloss paints in painting horses as i tend to put them on shelves if they get bumped together the gloss paint tends to “stick” hence i stopped painting alltogether for a while
matte and satin finishes seem to be okay for a small spot (test first) super gloss try clear nail polish i just got a liquid paint on satin finish medium to mix pearl dust into to try and use for my old peacock mothe rtouch up (i think the blue may be the closest i can find) i was going to ask in PYO about what people used for finishes too someday i hope to PMO lolFebruary 17, 2007 at 6:56 am #538913Clear nailpolish will sometimes lift up and mess with the color underneath, I’ve found.
