What would prompt you to give negative feedback to a seller? The reason I ask is because I just received a windstone that I won on ebay and I’m not sure if I should leave the seller good, bad or negative feedback. The dragon I won is a white fledgling and was advertised as mint and did not come with the original box.
Good points:
1. I paid a fair price for it
2. It was extremely well packedNeutral points:
1. There is some fading of the gold detailing but is otherwise in perfect condition. So although it was wrongly listed as mint condition, I am not really bothered by this since it is an easy fix.
Negative points:
1. Grossly overcharged on shipping (USPS sticker says $7.40 and seller charged me $24.00)
2. Did not insure the item as requested
3. Seller never responded to any of my emails requesting tracking numberSo what do you guys think?
February 10, 2007 at 7:16 pm #489637February 10, 2007 at 7:40 pm #537836I’ve only left negative feedback once, and that was only after the seller refused to give a refund though he said a mother/father/young dragon family was mint, and they actually had many chips and other blemishes — and after he left a nasty follow-up comment with false remarks when I filed a dispute with my credit card company to get a refund (I hadn’t yet left him any feedback at that point).
I think in your case I would just leave neutral feedback, since it got there safely and you thought the condition was acceptable. Also, this will prevent the seller from potentially leaving you retaliatory negative feedback. You should probably mention the bad points in your feedback comment.
By the way, did the seller advertise the shipping as $24 in the auction, or did they suddenly increase it after the auction?
February 10, 2007 at 7:57 pm #537837No matter what kind of feedback you leave, the seller may retaliate with a negative. You can leave follow-up feedback explaining that is retaliatory, though. It boils down to how badly you want to leave the comments vs. how badly you want to protect your own feedback. Personally, I check out a person’s neutrals/negatives and take into consideration why it was left. I don’t like sellers that leave retaliatory feedback and I avoid buying from them.

He actually only had a quote for shipping in the US ($12.50) it seemed fair to me for a fledgling so I figured I would get a fair price for Canada. When I won the item and got the price with shipping I figured it might be a little bit inflated, but I only found out that it was more that 3 times higher than actual cost when I got the box.

That’s a good point — if the seller has a history of leaving retaliatory negative feedback you might want to take that into consideration when deciding what feedback to leave.

I’m not really worried about retaliatory feedback, if a seller deserves a negative then I give him a negative no matter what they do in return. But I am trying to be fair… I am annoyed with this seller, so I’m tempted to leave a negative, but on the other hand, I am happy with my fledgling.

I guess go with a neutral then? You can leave a comment and then a follow-up to the comment – it gives you more space to state your reasons.

Since a quote for the shipping price wasn’t given prior to the auction ending, I would say the main negative is the fact that he didn’t insure the package. Since it got there OK, I’d be inclined to leave a neutral along with comments about the negative points. But it all depends on how annoyed you are, I guess…February 10, 2007 at 9:07 pm #537843I’m big on neutral feedbacks, though sometimes you still get a nasty retaliation and end up with a negative yourself for no reason. The shipping is most definately a rip off though. I’d ask for a partial refund on that.

February 10, 2007 at 9:15 pm #537845I would think a netural and asking for shipping back would be sufficient. But then again, if they didn’t respond to the tracking…they probably wouldn’t respond. Have you tried to contact them thru ebay and their email address?
February 10, 2007 at 9:20 pm #537846I think I’ll go for a neutral with comments. The main point to me really is the shipping overcharge, all of the rest I can live with… As far as getting a partial refund on the shipping, I don’t think I’ll even bother, I paid with a money order since the seller doesn’t have a paypal account. It’s too much trouble.

Yes tried both, and I know that he did get the emails because he replied to them… He just didn’t bother to answer the questions!
February 10, 2007 at 9:32 pm #537848uggg, that is agravating. What is the point of not reponding to your questions? Maybe to say that he did respond. I would definately PM SPark his name so she can put it on the black list.
