I’ve been reading about Windstone Pieces on e-Bay, and how hard it is to win there, with the highest bid, and of course the cost. I have some pieces there myself, but I’d like to make something available to Forum members at a reasonable price.
In order to be as fair as I can imagine, I thought maybe a contest would be the best way to decide who gets the piece. –I propose a photo contest, with wildlife as the subject, the winner gets a retired Windstone piece as a prize. The winning photo will be reproduced by my gallery and sold, at a 50% split between the winner of the contest and our gallery.
We usually pay 60% to our consignment artists, ( we have like 70 of them), but as we will be printing the photos and packaging them, I think this would be fair. I think it would be a fun contest and maybe even educational. What do you think βFebruary 8, 2007 at 4:54 pm #489605February 8, 2007 at 7:29 pm #537198Art Slinger wrote:I’ve been reading about Windstone Pieces on e-Bay, and how hard it is to win there, with the highest bid, and of course the cost. I personally refuse to judge one person’s art against another’s, because to me, that is not the purpose of art…(ah, that is a rant I won’t get into here)…and I want everybody to win. We have discussed this many times around here… This is a good place to get everyone’s input, and ideas on this subject! Your idea is wonderful, and I really appreciate your offer. We will discuss it.. The problem I can see with a photography contest, however, is that not everybody has the equipment,or access to wildlife to participate, so it would be a little unfair.Contests are also a little iffy, legally. We would have to look into what we could or could not do.
What does everyone think? ( No, I am NOT going to judge PYO’s against each other! That would be impossible!)February 8, 2007 at 7:42 pm #537199Melody wrote:What does everyone think?
Personaly I’ve seen some pictures taken with disposable cameras come out better than professional….also, there are different styles of pictures that could be used to portray wildlife. I think that it’s a broad enough category that everyone could be accomidated…I mean I could send you some GREAT photographs of the wild life of Southern California! (drunk socialites passed out behind the night club….the tourists on the beach…that sort of thing π ) Anyway I’d be all up for it, but I think that the judging would be the hardest part, and you would have to outline what you are judging on. ie. overall composition, scene, topic, etc.

Melody has enough stress in her life without worrying about judging our PYOs. That would be alot of tough decisions!

LMAO! Then make me a judge too then! π I cant even come CLOSE to painting like some of the others here! *jealous* BTW!! How long does it take for them to post your pics you have uploaded to the gallery??? I posted my first one I “think” a couple days ago and I still dont see it…..Whaaaaa! πFebruary 9, 2007 at 4:45 pm #537209Photography on wildlife? Ooohh, my ears are perked in interest. π
February 9, 2007 at 5:20 pm #537210We could always do a poll…have one person who isn’t participating post all the pictures without names attached and then everyone votes for thier favorite? Or their top three in order (first gets 3 points, second gets 2 points and third gets 1) winner is picture with most points.
