How long did it take you to get the hang of it? 2 of the 3 peices I made today broke while I was sanding them before firing. Any luck with actually bringing out a mirror finish? TIA!
January 20, 2007 at 5:36 pm #524542Oh I wanted to try the silver but never ordered it. I know that stuffs not cheap. I read a little about it and I think you are supost to do the sanding after it’s fired maybe that’s why it broke? but I don’t know. If I get some I’ll let you know how it goes.
January 20, 2007 at 6:57 pm #524543I’ve been fascinated by that metal clay stuff, but can’t find it anywhere in Canada. Well, maybe online, but no craft store seems to carry it.
It looks like fun stuff, though!
January 20, 2007 at 7:12 pm #524544We offer classes for the art clay but I haven’t had a chance to take it yet. I’ve seen some real nice stuff made tho. I think it is kind of tricky to work with with and breakage is not uncommen for beginers. I think you can fix it I’m just not sure how. The clay is expensive, we carry it in our store.
January 21, 2007 at 1:05 am #524545Thanks guys! I figured it out tho, got to be gentle!! Following the iunstructions helps too! I;ve already gone thru 2 20gram bags of silver, gotta get more!
January 23, 2007 at 8:00 pm #524546I’ve been eyeing the clay a long time already, but its still a tad to expensive for me. And the design I had planned, wasnt sure if I could make it reasonably in clay. Its now being professionally jeweld because I almost burned the lawn trying to cast it myself 😉
please post pics of the pieces when you’re finished, curios to see how they look/will be 🙂January 25, 2007 at 4:13 pm #524547Sure….here is a pair of earrings and pendant I made using Art Clay. I made a ring too, but it isnt done yet….
January 25, 2007 at 5:01 pm #524548Those are pretty neat!

Yes those are quite good, what are the actuall dimentions? I’m not into “artclay”,but I’m taking classes with a master potter, whose work is really “out there.” Can’t wait for the next class.
January 29, 2007 at 12:56 am #524550They are small….about 1″ long by just over 1/4″ wide. Thanx! I love the medium!

Again;…nice work.
I asked my #1 jewelry artist about “Art Clay”, she said it was really expencive and difficult to work with. I forgot to ask what she was comparing it to.
So how difficult is it?January 30, 2007 at 12:16 am #524552It’s not bad once you get the hang of it. The clay costs around $28/20 grams. Thats really a fair amount of clay too.
February 27, 2007 at 5:32 pm #524553hey there!
may I ask you where you bought your clay?
The story from the top of having it professionally casted .. welll… long shory stort: total failure, either they wanted half a grand for it all or they said ” we have to flatten the design and remove the etching” hahahathankyou and before I hit my heads with them again I decided to try PMC.
Have you tried slow dry low cure yet? how did you cure it? *is eager to hear firsthand experience*
also, how is it to work with? slow drying? how is the consistence? paperclay, fimo, terracotta-ish?
*kitty eyes*The pendant means a lot to me, I would have been ready to pay a lot and I do mean close to half a grand but not if they wanted to RE-sculpt it in that process. SLightlytouchyboutowndesign here… *fume*
