I just got a Sea Jewel mermaid and although I’ve seen her in stores before, I liked her better in person when I got to hold her and look at her up-close. I hadn’t noticed that she had intereference pain on her skin before. It really looks nice.

What I really wanted to know is who was your model for the face? She has no eye brows and a very peculiar smile – reminds me of the Mona Lisa.

Can you show us a pic of her face?

She does look like the Mona Lisa – just maybe a bit more smug. I seem to see eyebrows in the picture – are those just the eye ridges?
Seeing a big picture of her like that, I really like the Sea Jewel.

I didn’t even KNOW about the mermaids until very recently…I really want to get them now…I think the candlelamp is really lovely.

MELODY: I remember hearing in another thread that they are retired?? Is this true? Can my local store still order one for me or are you guys all out at the factory??

The first time I saw it on here, I thought of the Chessie cherub all grown up. 😯 Sorry Ches! It probably IS retired, because the more times I see pictures of it, the more I like it…naturally it will be HTF. 🙄

The Sea Jewel is retired and out at the warehouse. The Sea Fire Mermaid Sconce is still available. It runs about $145.00.

Armiks still has both mermaids listed. Astral Castle still has the sconce. Bella has the other.

The sconce is really lovely, lots of neat textures and I love the flow of the hair “underwater”.

                    And I hate mermaids!

my first sea jewel was kind of messed up and not so cool looking…..the second one I got is a whole lot better……and very pretty….

but I seriosly think someone has issues with painting those nipples….the first one I got had lopsided ones and this one looks like they rubbed the paint off them after they painted them…..

                      but she’s still really pretty

I didn’t use a model. I just worked on her face until it looked the way I pictured her looking.. I had a pretty firm idea of the face I wanted. I am NOT real good at “humans” and not good at female humans at all, but I’ve always loved mermaids.
The story about how this one came to be is: I had this little rough merm. sculpture sitting on my “put aside” shelf for YEARS. My mother asked me constantly when I was going to finally get around to finishing her. So I did… and my mother said “don’t you dare put stupid seashells or anything on her nipples! Mermaids wouldn’t really wear that stuff!” so I didn’t.
Humans are murder to paint. Especially smooth skinned ones. Things gotta be perfect.I knew painted-on eyebrows would be a disaster, so I made them so they were created with shadow. I did get that trick from looking at marble sculptures of angels.

I think that mermaid has a “I am so about to moon you” expression going on

Incidently, anyone familiar with the theory that Mona Lisa is actually a feminized version of da Vinci? :X

Never heard of it, but that’s ridiculous. She was one of the nobility who commissioned her portrait. Just nobody knows her full name.
