I just received a message about the October Windstone Raffle! Quoting it here for those who don’t get the messages:
“This month’s prize is a Grand Unicorn painted like an unusually marked zebra foal that was photographed in Kenya recently. Like the zebra foal, this unicorn was born dark brown with off-white polka dots and tan leggings. He has dark brown glass eyes and a gold plated pewter horn.

A polka-dotted zebra foal is spotted in Kenya. “Tira” has pseudomelanism, a rare genetic mutation that causes abnormal stripe patterns.

I wonder if this pretty filly is in a sanctuary? I’ve seen photos of pseudomelanistic zebras a couple times; it’s my understanding predators tend to knock them out pretty quickly though. As neat looking as it is, I’m surprised it doesn’t appear to be being selected for in a captive population, like the champagne zebras. Maybe it’s rare enough there just haven’t been captive ones to breed. Not advocating removing wild animals from their environment, just idle wondering.
Oooooh. I’d enter and give it to her if I won, but I already won one too.

Male Hearth....one day🤞Dream on.Oh boy! What a beautiful Grand! ! I would LOVE to have a Grand Unicorn! So I’ve entered, and once again crossed my fingers! This is such an unusual Zebra color! I believe he was born in one of the parks or reserves, so hopefully, he is being watched over.

That little zebra’s markings remind me of a baby tapir. I wonder if it’s some kind of ancestral pattern, since both equids and tapirs are perissodactyls. Maybe the foal’s pattern will change as it grows like baby tapirs do.

She IS Very Unusual AND Grand! Such a Cutie! LOVE the Odd-Ball designs that Mother Nature comes up with on occasion. Just when you thought all Zebras had stripes, we get a Polka-Dot! ^_^
