Oh my god guys.
I found a Red Eyed Copper Patina Oriental Dragon in a Goodwill in MN.
I won him at auction but they said they can’t ship him safely.
I called their packing partner and the guy had zero idea how to ship something delicate.
I called the UPS store and begged them to do it instead. They said it might cost $90 but I told them please it’s such an old piece in mint condition.
I would die if it was damaged.
I arranged for the pick up and am now waiting on a true quote and response.
No one but you guys would understand the anxiety.
I had to share.
I feel like I’m trying to Indiana Jones a precious artifact out of the hands of people who don’t know the value or delicate nature of it.
I’ll keep you guys updated.

May 23, 2019 at 11:43 am #1568044Can you ask Windstone/Susie to ship an oriental box to whoever has the dragon? (You pay for the box and shipping, of course.)
Looking for...
Sitting young oriental dragon koi gold and white
May 23, 2019 at 11:48 am #1568045I don’t think they would be willing to wait for it.
It’s a goodwill company and they have a set amount of time to ship him out.
The ladies at the UPS store I contacted seem to know what I’m talking about when I say double boxing a delicate item.
If I pay for it I feel like they will do great.
I told them only 36 of these have been made in that color/eye combo and that the item is delicate and old.
She seemed very willing to package him super safe.
Fingers crossed.

I once shipped one to a forum member and I handmade a special form-fitted foam insert for him – I wanted to keep the Ori safe and secure so badly.Good Luck!

This may be for the best; I’ve bought from Goodwill online, and had a vintage piece of pottery arrive broken. (For anyone considering them, they refunded no problem- and I bought a Windstone safely there once too)
May 24, 2019 at 9:53 am #1568140Update – I have arranged for the UPS lady to pick him up. By this point everyone knows who and what he is.
Goodwill marked him shipped so I was confused about that because I haven’t heard from UPS about picking him up.
Hope it’s going good. Waiting to hear from UPS.

Goodwill WAS GOING TO SHIP IT NORMAL but the super nice manager at goodwill caught them before they were going to ship it after I called her.
She said she was sorry that almost happened because we have been chatting the last few days about UPS taking it.
She called UPS and takes to their manager (who had already arranged for pick up on Tuesday).
So now for sure everyone knows about him and for sure he will be picked up by UPS on Tuesday.
She commented on how beautiful he was and said she has never seen something like him come through their facility.
She said it was a very good idea that I’m having UPS take him.
I will update on Tue after the handoff.

Wow, I didn’t know there were so few of these oris made in this style! They look so different from the later copper patina dragons, with their dark vintage-looking antique and individual scales picked out in different shades of copper and gold. What a rare treasure to find at a Goodwill.
I hope everything works out with the shipping.
May 28, 2019 at 2:39 pm #1568358They’re not really that old, but you don’t see them too often I guess since they weren’t mass produced like Peacock or Emerald. They were released once or twice in the limited production section of the store with red eyes but they weren’t numbered… unless Susie has been keeping track of how many were made.

She said that is highly likely there will not be any made. So he is pretty darn rare.
Shipping and expert double box packing was $114.50 and he will be here tomorrow.
I’ll post pictures then!

June 1, 2019 at 8:24 pm #1568713Yay, that’s excellent news that he’s on his way! Definitely post pictures. 🙂
Interested in buying or trading for: GB Pebble Sitting Red Fox in dark grey, Lap Dragon Test Paints (Water Sprite, Glacial Pearl, Opulence, Pastel Rainbow, and many others - see my Classifieds ad), Blue Morpho OW, GB Pebble Loaf dragons in blue/aqua/teal, and Griffin Test Paints (Black Rainbow or Frosted Jade).
June 2, 2019 at 1:33 pm #1568765I feel like there were more then that, but maybe I am mistaken. I think I still have both my red eyed set and a teal eyed set of the whole family.

He arrived safe. I have never seen a Windstone so securely packed.

He was in the second box wrapped in about three feet of high grade bubble wrap.
Thank you UPS lady.
