My daughter will be leaving home in a few weeks. Her boyfriend’s family (they own a car shop) is selling her a car very cheap. She has her license, is a decent driver… but she IS quite short, as in barely 5 foot. She put one of my old texts with a pad over it on the seat to raise herself enough to see over the hood, but it’s uncomfortable. I’ve been trying to find her a cushion or something she can put in the seat to lift herself higher that wouldn’t be so uncomfortable, but no luck- all I can find are orthopaedic cushions for people with bad backs and cushions to increase comfort, and the ones I’ve seen in person look like they’d all squish too flat to function as risers. Does anyone here have a suggestion for one/ brand etc. that should work? She isn’t the only really short driver in the world, you wouldn’t think it’d be so hard!

You’ve reminded me of when my friend learned to drive and had to sit on a pillow to see out.  One night she left her car unlocked and someone STOLE HER PILLOW!    Her’s was a homemade pillow.   You might check out some of the thick chair pads for dining chairs that tie on – I’ve seen some that are pretty solid.

Thanks, that’s a great idea! You’re right, I’ve seen some very thick and solid feeling ones. Will have to look when I hit Old Time Pottery.

Ms. Susie was right on target! (Duh, don’t know why I didn’t think of it) I stopped at a thrift store while I was off today and found a super thick and solid dining chair pad. Gave it to my daughter and she loves it- now to make sure it doesn’t flatten, but that thing’s hard.

You can also try the chair pads made for persons with lower lumbar issues – those are harder and have a gel inside to help conform to your.. er… seat! They are specially made to also counteract leg pain.
