I’d love a simple, classy one- or two-color sticker (not full-length bumper size, more the size of the ones people stick in windows) with Snerl and “Windstone Editions” on it.

Not a sticker at all, but – I collect embroidered patches for geeky things I’m into, and I’d go CRAZY for an embroidered Snerl patch!! Now that we know patches are an option, after the gorgeous Poad patches. πŸ˜€

Well, that explains one thing — I did remember that some early CPs were produced with an eye color other than teal (and that’s why all the CPs now specify the eye color, though I don’t think any non-teal-eyed CPs have been made in a while). I’d forgotten the Lap was one of those! Thank you. πŸ™‚

Original question remains, though — were any Laps produced in a CP color akin to the “Version 1” griffins? The Lap on the Postponed Production page is very dark, definitely on the “Version 2” side of the scale. The text says that the teal-eyed ones were “a brighter and more reddish copper” than the red-eyed ones, but the picture is of a teal-eyed one and it’s pretty dark! Nowhere near as ‘bright and reddish’ as the Version 1 Griffins, so if anyone here has either version (or both, and can do a side-by-side comparison!) and wants to add data, please do!

Copper Patina Lap Dragons were produced for the store at least twice. The color varied somewhat and the eye color was changed from red to teal in the later version. Did you see the text that accompanied the store listing?

The Lap Dragon looks perfectly groomed even when she wears a distressed copper patina finish. These “rescue” dragons are pieces that had slight casting defects. Normally we would have destroyed these, but we have devised a way to make use of otherwise perfectly good dragons by painting them with a textured “distressed antique” finish that enhances the surface flaws with patina and makes them beautiful. A few random scales are highlighted with brighter gold, copper, or a hint of violet, and their gold horns are also antiqued with patina. We all think they are gorgeous; they look like weathered cast bronze. We have given this batch red jewels and deep red eyes. These dragons vary slightly in texture and color because every one of these dragons is an individual. These are unsigned limited production.

This new version, introduced 5/27/11, with teal eyes and a blue zircon jewel is painted in a brighter and more reddish copper color than our previous copper patina dragons, and the surface may be smoother.

          We cast them here.

There was some problem with the Kirin horns having to do with the smooth surface. I am not sure what their status is currently.

How cool! Making it an ‘in-house’ job just somehow seems to make the sculptures even more special. Maybe because us fans tend to get attached to the Windstone crew? πŸ™‚

Sorry to hear the Kirin horns are being stubborn, though!

They’re all so gorgeous! But I feel so lonely – I think I’m the only one who doesn’t collect or have one poad. They’re adorable but I do like the gryphs and draggies better.

You’re not the only one! I’m not a Poad collector, either. I’m delighted for the Poad People who are going to enjoy this grab bag frenzy, though! (And I totally have a favorite from the pictures, anyway!)

Part of me really wants to ask, “But what about Lap Dragons in Lavender Pearl and Copper Patina Version 1??” The part of me that watches the checkbook, however, is a little relieved that it seems to be Poad Time instead of Lap Dragon Time! (And maybe January or February could be Lap Dragon Time, instead?)

            Anyway! My favorite Poad:

We have pewter parts now for everything except hatching pegasi and male/female kirins.

That’s awesome news!! Did you guys finally find a pewter caster who could make them, or did you end up working out some way to do it in-house?

I don’t think they could go back and use “Chestnut” for the original color. Melody did do a couple of “Chestnut” test paint kirins. They are brown/brown.

That’s true — I had forgotten about the Chestnut test paints. Scratch all names including chestnut, then!

Doot de doot de doo. *whistles and twiddles her thumbs* Everybody else is all excited for grab bags, meanwhile I’m just sitting here, waiting for new PYOs. πŸ˜€

(I’d say “waiting patiently” but I think this post is a clue that I’m pretty impatient! Though I suppose I will live if they take a while, I gather the folks at the factory have more than enough to keep them busy most days.)

Totally the same thought here, haha… I don’t collect poads, so even though I’ll love seeing the poads (they always turn out so pretty!) I keep checking up to see if there are any hippocampus updates, haha

Heh, same. I’m not a poad collector, either, so I’m just twiddling my thumbs while waiting to see if any of the pieces not-yet-debuted in Lavender Pearl will be arriving in the store in time for holiday purchases (i.e. reckless indulgent use of Christmas money)!

I’d been planning to bid, even though I really shouldn’t’ve, but I would have been blown out of the water by those final bids so it’s just as well I worked late instead. πŸ˜€

I like these suggestions! And I agree; “brown” sort of sells it short (and is just plain wrong; it’s 50% non-brown!)

I was thinking “Chestnut” or “Pearl Chestnut” or “Ivory/Brown” or “Fire Metal” or “Earth Metal” (since in Chinese colors white symbolizes the element of metal, and red symbolizes the element of fire; yellow/brown symbolizes the element of earth) or “Lychee” or “Jujube” (the “Chinese date,” a brownish-reddish fruit), or, uh… “Cinnabar Pearl”? “Lucky Brown”? “Snow Tree”? πŸ˜€

                        …”Impala“? “Gazelle“? (Or “Mhorr”?)

Oryx“? The curved horn fits well, though the white to brown ratio is off…

Were T-shirts with Windstone images ever made officially?

I found these tees on Ebay (listed as ‘pre-owned’ condition, so maybe the seller got them legitimately and is now reselling them, IF such shirts were ever made – but I feel certain they weren’t, because I would have bought about twenty!)

Has there been any progress on this?

My gallery is a mess – there are random images not in galleries, and galleries that I could’ve sworn were sub-nested when I set them up that are now separate. There are some older images that mostly showcase my bad photography instead of my painting skills that I’d like to delete, too.

I also really miss the description feature – all my descriptions seem to have been eaten, and there’s no way to restore them.

I have new PYOs to add, but I don’t want to put them into my gallery until I can put them in neatly and not have to worry that they’ll end up somewhere random.

Well, that’s awesome news; I know there are an awful lot of forum people who will be delighted by the arrival of PYO Hippocampi before Christmas! (Or after it…)

If that’s it for new releases, what about restocking? And/or grab bags? It looked like you guys were gearing up for another GB of unis or poads, in the “What’s new” thread. I know lots of people here will be excited about that, too! I foresee many grab-bag-box-sized Christmas presents under members’ Christmas trees… πŸ˜€

Hi, Melody! Do you have December and/or Christmas (or winter holiday of choice) plans, yet? For your family? For the store/staff?

The mention of “please, no expensive Grab Bags a month before Christmas” in the What’s Coming Up thread made me think about it — are you guys going to stuff the store full of goodies for Christmas shoppers, or take a break and just let everybody buy each other gift certificates to spend when you all come back to work in January? πŸ™‚

We don’t have any special plans for Christmas around here! We take Christmas day off, but otherwise just work work work as usual.
The only new sculpture that looks like it will be out soon is the pyo hippocampus.

That’s a good suggestion; thank you! I think I will try to work some navy blue into his coat, too, as well as grey. (He’s an odd hybrid of realistic and fantastical, so perhaps I can use the different colors to suggest the split – winged parts with navy, wolf parts with grey?

                                Hmm… maybe I need to draw a diagram…

Just remember (unless you are going for a black-black wolf, then just ignore this) that black animals, especially wolves, aren’t actually pure black. If you look closely at them they’re a freakin’ rainbow, I’m not joking! πŸ˜€ Black wolves usually have undertones of red/dark brown, blue and purple. (And when they get older they grey out so much, so severely, that if you didn’t already know about how black wolves grey out you’d never know that they were born black!) So if your wolf isn’t pure black, then I’d try to work in some other dark shades of colour. πŸ™‚ Just a suggestion!
