I’ve been feeling a bit down and for whatever reason dusting and taking pics of my collection has gotten my mood up, so I figured I’d share the pictures that I took 🙂
Here are my Fledgies, a piece done by Koishikitty, and my 2 ebay Male dragons 🙂 Slightly better pics of the dragons follow, though the Mahogany one is notoriously hard to photograph! This was the best I could get his actual colors to show – generally my camera wants to bring out more grey than is apparent in person! Poison Dart Frog may be my favorite male dragon painted to date. These pics do him no justice – he is so vibrant and beautiful in person!
And here are my Poads and the 2 griffins that watch over them (or is it the other way around?) Along with a couple better pics of the Griffins. They are my favorite griffins Melody has ever painted, and I am completely honored and lucky to own them both!
And finally, here is the top, middle, and lower shelf of my Windstone bookshelf! Top shelf has Bisbee Twilight by Stephanie, owl candlelamp and a Spectral that needs his crest repaired. Middle shelf houses 2 of my griffins, my brown Male dragon, and 2 phoenixes – the leftmost was done by PurpleCat, and the right is by Grayfire. I was playing with the way they were facing to see if I could make something that was more symmetrical! The bottom shelf has my wolves, gothic uni, adult Poads, and .. well.. a blank Keeper statue. XD I think I needed his bag for something and I never ended up putting him back in his box.
I have a few more shelves that I didn’t take pictures of because they either have repaints on them or I didn’t get around to dusting them today XD Perhaps I’ll get their pictures next time though 🙂

Please visit My Webpage to see my art and PYO's that I've done in the past!Unfortunately I think that having people glue in their own horns poses too many opportunities to mess up or even break a piece, which would be bad for everyone!
Even with step by step instructions, some people just don’t have as much dexterity than others – it could be glued on funny, or without enough glue and eventually break off, causing damage to the piece. What if the person used too much glue? This is the issue I think we would see most of – and any of these things would greatly devalue the piece. I realize it stinks that shipping has been less than successful with many of these, but I wouldn’t like the idea of having to trade with people that possibly didn’t know what they were doing when gluing in the horn (or DID, and messed it up somehow!). Besides the fact that I believe these guys have their horns glued in with Epoxy, which in itself is a process to get to set and set right. This is a good suggestion, I just think there’s too much room for error here :/

….properly use interference colors? What are the best ways to do this? Effects over dark vs light? Do you use as is, mix in white paint or medium or do you mix them straight into the colors?
Well, it depends on the effect that you want 🙂
I have found that if you use interference as a finisher or a detailer and you’re painting over your existing paint job, that the interference color and shine will be the most vivid over darker colors. However, using it over lighter colors can result in some really beautiful finishes, they just tend to be more subtle. For example, I love using interference gold over white and cream colors because it gives it a pearly finish that flashes in the light. You can also mix interference with solid colors to create a dynamic, sparkly paint. I would NOT recommend mixing interference with light paint. The interference tends to get lost in the opaque, lighter paints. However, in darker colors interference will add a beautiful sparkle. I like mixing like colored interference to paints to add kick to the color, and honestly don’t think I have painted anything with truly solid colors in a long time! I always mix with metallics or interference.
How do you…..
….finish your pieces? Do you prefer matte, satin or glossy? Spray-on or brush on? Antiqued or not? What brands seem to work best for you? Any other tips with finishing?
Again, it depends on the piece and what I am going for.
I almost exclusively finish unicorns with a matte spray-on, and then use a brush on gloss to finish the mane and tail. For dragons, I prefer gloss or satin finishes 90% of the time. For glosses, I prefer Design Master brand, and for Matte I’ve found that Krylon is the best. I use a Liquitex paint-on gloss. How do you…..
….prep your blank pyo’s? Gesso, white arylic, or not at all? Does your media choice (tea-stain, inks, acrylic, pastel etc..) affect if and how you would prep them?
I do nothing! I find that gypsum accepts the acryllic paints that I use quite well. I have to put several coats of paint on my pieces to really solidify the color, but with every coat it just becomes richer and more beautiful. I’ve come to really love the way gypsum accepts paint all on its own, and with no extra prep.

Sure, I am a bit biased because starry night themes are my favorite, but that last uni’s paint job is phenomenal!!! 🙂

Please visit My Webpage to see my art and PYO's that I've done in the past!I’d like it if they keep it mostly a secret when they are going to release. I wouldn’t mind a general idea – IE “They won’t be ready for another month”, but I certainly do not think they should give us a date, or even a week that they will be out. The way they have been released lately causes SO much less stress in my life, and I’m sure in theirs as well.

She has the colors of a roan (she reminds me a LOT of Rosedust, if any of you guys remember her from the first Grab Bag Young batch!) but shes also an appaloosa 🙂
She’s seriously beautiful, but as many of you know, I am a Poad lover at heart, so she will be up for trade for a Poad, or possibly another baby.

so here’s some outdoor ones of the guy that I got (who I have taken to calling Sandstorm) if anyone would like to see 🙂 Some of his edging kind of reminds me of tea stains 🙂
And since I’ve already posted them as images, I’m just putting the links here so that I don’t absolutely spam everyone XD
