The curlies and coils have been gathered up and sefely placed in my display cabinet. I moved my dragons into their boxes and into my closet to make room. I don’t think they’ll mind giving up their roost for one night.
I went through the box of old greens, and sorted them out as best I could. No camera still, but I have some links from Astral.
The emp is indeed a green. He has some lovely purplish tones to him, and not a nick anywhere. He has the number two inked on his base.
http://www.astralcastle.com/images/windst/others/emperorgreen.jpgI believe the baby in the bunch is indeed a hatching green. His eyes are brownish in color.
http://www.astralcastle.com/images/windst/others/hatchingdrgreen.jpgA male green who seems a little lighter than this one.
http://www.astralcastle.com/images/windst/malegreen.jpgA green mama with a small message on the bottom of her that reads. “You’re my everything.” I believe the date with the message reads ’85
http://www.astralcastle.com/images/windst/others/motherdrgreen.jpgA young green.
http://www.astralcastle.com/images/windst/504g.jpgOh. This fellow was also with the greens, and was the real oddball out of the bunch. I’d actually never seen one in person until today.
http://www.astralcastle.com/images/windst/gothicucomposite.jpgNow. I’m exhausted. Sleepy time for me and the new brood. I’ll have more dragons listed tomorrow.
Well. The curlie box has been totally sorted through… and there’s currently 25 of them going in a snail-like spiral from the middle of my office. I didn’t realize there were so many.
I guess I should be careful when I say curlie. Some of them are actually coiled, and a couple of them are mothers with eggs. And they’re all numbered like the others Lizzo and I pulled out.
My fiance flipped when he got home from work. The anger has subsided though I think and now he really just wants to know who all these dragons belonged to.
We’re still going to hold onto the Pyo’s, and probably the little pinkie with the photo. I don’t think it would be right to sell them. =/
Lizzie is going to see what she can do about a camera. She’s going to check her apartment while I go through the next two boxes we went through. I’ll have updates again soon.
And I’m very sorry for the lack of replies to my private messages. I’m currently sitting on 60 of them, and I will do my best to answer them all.
I just need to get through the boxes first. ><
All of the windstones have numbers, not just the dragons. The Ki-Rins are 30-33, and the extra male sitting out is 33 and 1/2.
Does anyone know any collector who numbered her dragons?
I don’t even know where she picked the dragons up from, Lokie. I’ll have to ask tomorrow when I call her. I have lots of questions. 🙁
I mentioned this to Melody earlier that these dragons all have numbers carefully written on their felt pads. The old brown emp and the green emp have the numbers one, and two. The other dragons have numbers going into the eighties, which makes me think that she was numbering her dragons as she got them.
This one curlie I’m holding has the number 87 on his base. I don’t have 87 dragons here.. at least I don’t think I do. *looks around* If she was numbering her dragons, I have to find the rest or at least figure out what happened to them.
I’ve got to talk to the clerk again tomorrow first thing.
The PYO’s will definitely be staying with me, unless an artist on the forum can ID them and claim them. If that’s the case, I’ll send them to that artist directly. I don’t think it would be right, any other way.
One of the curlies is a soft pink in color, and her box contained the photo of a baby girl. I imagine that she was possibly a grandchild, and that said curlie might have been a keepsake over her birth. I don’t know, but it seems to make sense.
I feel really, really sick over this. 🙁
Lizzy and I are trying to be very gentle as we go through more of the dragons. We’re looking for other photos and hopefully a name.
So I’m trying to enjoy a bowl of soup, type, and balance the myriad of curlies on my lap at the same time. That’s what was in the box with the pyos. Curlies. Lots and lots and lots of curlies.
We’re at twelve so far. Lizzo is unwrapping number thirteen.
I’m starting to feel ready bad though. This collection must have taken years upon years to collect. These were someone else’s babies, and I feel like they were literally just dumped (so to speak). 🙁
…. guys.
Whoever this grandmother was, purchased PYO’s. Lizzy opened that extra box and there were two of them in there. They’re absolutely beautiful, but look to be unsigned! There is no felt on the bottom of either one!
I’m not sure what else is in the box, but there looks to be a lot of wrapped windstones in it. I will let you all know if I find anything signed.
Ugh. I feel like crying. And I desperately need to get a camera. 🙁
Sorry for the slow replies. Liz and I just spent over an hour going through the broken box.
The bad news- we seperated out the remains of what looks to be a gold old warrior, a jade sun, a rainbow mother, and what we think is an emerald lap. We doubt that a single drop could have caused this much damage. These dragons are in absolute pieces. The first thing I saw when I opened the ‘coffin’ was the broken half of the OW’s face looking up at me. *sighs*
The good news- there were a couple survivors. We carefully pulled out all the broken pieces and found two smaller boxes in the bottom of the box. I actually handed the boxes over to Lizzo and left the room because I didn’t want to see any more damage. 🙁 Lizzo had more guts than I did though and more than willingly opened the boxes. She tracked me down in the kitchen a few minutes later and handed me yet another white hatching empress and a white kinglet! They both look totally fine and made it through the damage okay!
We’re going to go through a few more boxes after we eat. I’ll keep you guys posted. There’s still that other extra box I’ve yet to peek into.
So we found out why box number two was so heavy. Hal said it was one of the extra boxes she got. There was TWO emperors in it!
I know the one is peacock, and the other one I believe is an emerald. The eyes are red. 😀
Hi everyone! This is the Lizzie! One of Aeth’s roomies before she bolted for Wisconsin like a crazy person!
She’s currently a puddle of happiness on the floor going through boxes. But I get to tell you what was in box number one!
I’m going to use the Astral Castle Library for pictures since Hal’s camera isn’t working so you guys can see what we have.
Box number one contains:
Two of these!
http://www.astralcastle.com/images/windst/flion.jpgShe’s precious!
http://www.astralcastle.com/images/windst/others/HatchingEmporerEmerald.JPGCute!
http://www.astralcastle.com/images/windst/508p.jpgI want this one!
http://www.astralcastle.com/images/windst/hatchingemprswht.jpgHe’s so dusty! *cough cough*
http://www.astralcastle.com/images/windst/youngdrbrown.jpgMINE!
http://www.astralcastle.com/images/windst/municblk.jpgHe’s very light like this one!
http://www.astralcastle.com/images/windst/pyoungo.jpgThese dragons were very loved. Some of these even had their original boxes and are in perfect condition! The young brown is a little dusty but I think we can fix that. *chases after him with a feather duster*
I’m going to move these to the kitchen table. Hal should have box two open soon! 😀
Also. Does anyone have a picture of a brown emperor anywhere? I don’t have my camera, and I couldn’t find a picture of one anywhere online. x.x
THE BABIES ARE HERE!!!!
Well. In their boxed form at the moment. We just got the last box out of the car, and we’re trying to warm ourselves up. It’s sooooo cold outside.
My office is full of boxes. Oh dear. I don’t know where to start. And I paid another 50.00 for two more boxes of dragons that the storekeeper said she’d missed. I’ve no idea what’s in them. *boggle* o0
As for the broken box… it’s really scaring me. When my girlfriend lifted it from the back seat of my car, there was white dust on the seat from its contents. >< Looks like tiny pieces of crushed dragon bits to me. 🙁
Off to shed off coats and such and grab some paper towels, plastic baggies, and some trashbags. We’re going to attempt to do this as carefully as possible. I’ll update as we go through each box. There’s 12 not including the broken one. So.. *deep breath* Here we go!
I think I was more than stunned. The lady was snickering at me because I was almost freaking out (I tend to squeak and make other strange sounds when happy and excited about something). The price was even more shocking, and I couldn’t walk away from it. ><
One of my girlfriends is actually heading over now, so we can go wrangle up the dragons together and begin the whole sorting process. I’ll update what the whole dragon list is, later this afternoon. =)
***EDIT *** 2/12/08 This is Jennifer/Nambroth, guys. Please read this thread BEFORE sending Aetharia PM’s or emails about buying or trading these items. Since her original post we have learned that a Windstone collector that we may or may not have known here (we are not sure yet) has passed away. If you have any information please post it in the thread linked to above, or if you don’t want to share it you are welcome to PM me and I will find the best way to handle it. Thank you for your respect and sensitivity in this unsettling and sad matter.
Aetharia’s original post as follows:
___________________________________________________________________________So. Antique shops. You can find some rather interesting things in them. But. When it comes to windstones, I tend to view said antique stores as places of dragon execution. Whenever I’ve stumbled across a windstone in any antique shop, they’re usually in aweful to pathetic shape.
Buttttttt. I think I stumbled across the motherlode on Saturday.
I’d discovered a small antique shop here in town that I didn’t even know existed. I’m still new to my little college town, so I try to snoop around between classes and when I have freetime. Antique shops as I said, can house some interesting stuff. So. I decided to poke around.
The lady that runs that place was very pleasant, and didn’t mind my snooping. The shop used to be an old general store I think, and there were two floors of odds and ends to go through.
Where am I going with all of this blabbing? Well. When I got to the back wall of the second floor, a familiar glint caught my attention. I looked and thought “Hey… is that an emperor dragon staring at me?” I was baffled, and looked again to fully realize there was an indeed an emperor staring at me, his head poking out of a box (with the flaps of it crammed around his head). I ran to rescue him, pulled the flaps back, and reached in to pull him out. I was even more surprised that he was a beautiful brown in color, and there was NOT one scratch on him. I’d never seen an emperor as brown as him, and I wasn’t about to put him down either.
I guess I must have made quite the “EEP!! DRAGON!!” noise or something, because the lady running the store actually came and found me. When I inquired about the dragon, she said she’d actually gotten a -bunch- of them from a family whose grandmother had passed away. Apparantly all the dragons had belonged to her, and the family just didn’t have the room for them. =/
… about the bunch of other dragons. When I asked about those, she motioned to several boxes that were stacked against the wall.
“There’s a lot of dragons in there. You’re more than welcome to look through them if you like.”
….. *twitch of utter joy*
Needless to say, I spent the next few hours going through some of the most beautiful windstone pieces I’ve ever seen. The lady who owned them must have really loved them, because they were all in wonderful condition. I’m not very familiar with all the different colors and whatnot, but some of the dragons looked to be very old.
The brownish emperor has a twin, forest green brother who’s in wonderful shape. I found several brown dragons that look to match the brownish emp. There looks to be a nearly complete emerald set, including a gorgeous old warrior. A white lap (EEEE!) with a matching mother, father and hatching empress. Two jade suns and a peacock oriental (I think he’s the lighter version). There are also several dragons who have that green color the emperor does, but I’m not totally sure if they match as a set. The colors amongst all of them seem to vary slightly from each other. Two flions, and gryphon male with very blue eyes. There’s a box entirely dedicated to flapcats, and they were packed in such a near sardine manner I didn’t try to pull them out (I was afraid I would break one of them ><). There was also a family of ki-rins with an extra male, a couple of small wizards and a spectral (who's very, very green).
There has to be about around 30 windstones in all, and I’m bringing them all home today for 350.00. The lady said she’d been thinking about auctioning them off on ebay, or she was going to take them to a mass auction. =/ I guess I got very lucky, and jumped on the price when I asked what she wanted for them. Really, I think she wanted to get rid of them.
The problem is that I simply cannot have all of these dragons in my apartment. My current brood will not be happy to share their cabinet space with so many newcomers, and their brood mommy just doesn’t have the room.
I’m going to sort through all the boxes again today after I go pick them up, and see exactly what all I have. Some of the dragons I simply didn’t recognize. So I’m not sure what all is what and who is who exactly.
The lady at the shop also offered me a box filled with broken dragons. She said she actually had dropped one box while moving them from her truck, and hadn’t even opened it to see what the damage was. I’m horrified by what I might find, but I’ll sort that out too (if I can).
Once I do sort through all these dragons, I will do my very best to get pictures up on on the forums. My camera has had it, so I have to figure out what to do about that. Maybe the fiance will snag a cheapy for me to use (if he doesn’t kill me when he sees ten boxes of windstones that will be sitting in the office when he gets home).
These windstones are going to need loving homes, and I felt it was only right to bring this to the forums first. Once I get all of them sorted out and cleaned up a bit, I’ll get pictures up for peeps to see. Maybe some of you might be interested in offering some of these pretties a place in your own broods? If any of you are, please PM me so I can start a list of sorts.
