Not sure what’s going to happen. Rumor mill says we won’t be going anywhere but our job titles will be changed which, in essence makes us “less special” and more equivalent to a regular full time employee. There are different levels of employees currently. CSA 1-5 (CSA meaning customer service associate) Right now I am a level 4 because I am a Specialist/Kitchen Designer. One tier below a manager. This would drop us down to a level 3, which is a regular full time associate. Level 2 is part time and Level 1 is seasonal. So all this does is lower our bonus eligibility. Currently CSA 4’s cap out at $800 per quarter for a bonus. Regular CSA 3’s can get only $400 maximum. So that will be effected. We hardly make bonus anyway so I’m not that worried about it. They’ve made them almost impossible to get. In the whole 5 years I’ve been here I think we’ve gotten a bonus like 3 or 4 quarters and we’ve never qualified for a maximum bonus. It’s usually like $200- $300 bucks which turns in to $150 after taxes. No big deal. $150 bucks MAYBE once or twice a year is the least of my worries.
The thing I am worried about it if they do that it lowers our hourly pay cap which I am probably already above for a regular full time associate. Being a NKBA certified kitchen designer I’m at almost $20 an hour and I’m actually one of the lower paid designers in our region, but not the store. I make about $4 bucks more an hour then this kitten murdering twat waffle I work with. Some others who have been with the company longer are upwards to $30+ an hour and are grandfathered into commissions which were from before I was hired so I don’t get them. I’m 99.9% positive this restructure will be to remove those positions and redefine them so you have to re-apply for your job which will result in a forced pay cut or a ticket to the unemployment line. Your choice. I’m sure designers in other locations who get commissions still will be much more affected then myself, but in any case it doesn’t look good.
If they then knock the store down to one designer (which is totally possible) it’s hard to say who they will keep. I am the more reliable one with more experience, but I get paid more then the other girl who is flaky with attendance and messes up more because she has no experience. However she has family in management and gets paid less which, from a corporate perspective is more appealing since they have to dish out less cash for salary… Even if she is a lot less reliable then me, they just see numbers on a paper. It’s really hard to say… I’m not sure if I should start applying or just wait and see what happens.

I said at the being of this thread that you should start looking. So – get to it before you find yourself worst off or with nothing.
Please drag0n… the writing is on the wall. Better to be safe than sorry. With your experience you should be looking at companies that deal with Custom Kitchen designs as a main part of their business. Do an internet search on ‘Custom Kitchen Designer’ and see what pops up. Set-up a resume and post it on ‘Indeed’, ‘LinkedIn’, etc. If you don’t have a resume – write one! If you don’t know how to write one, believe me there are Apps and online sites that tell you how to do it. Just do it and do it now. Then write nice cover letters and send your resumes out – Now! Don’t wait until know what is going to happen. Be proactive and prepared.
As GardenNinja and Tig3r eluded to, it’s much better to know what your experience is worth and have something ‘in your pocket’ to be in a better negotiating position – or to be in a better position to land on your feet if you are let go. Also – start saving money now as well…. when I was laid off it took me 8 months to find another job. Unemployment helped, but it’s limited – very limited and only a percentage of your wages based on what you had earned.

I just don’t want to wear a dress ugh… Maybe I could find a nice lumber yard or something that has a design area where I wont have to wear heels LOL. I can do the whole business casual thing, but a lot of companies want ladies going out to jobsites dressed like a hooker as if that’s the only way to sell their product. Not into it.
In the meantime I scheduled a dentist appointment tomorrow *cringe* Better use my insurance while I still have it. You never know.Got a busted Windstone?

I parrot everything that Ela_Hara, Tig3r, and GardenNinja have said. Please do yourself a favor and hit the ground running with these suggestions. You don’t want to be like some of the people who are on here in need that have to sell their beloved collection just make ends meet. I think it’s cool that you can design kitchens and I think you have a very desirable skill set that can be utilized in different aspects of employment. For example; my friend used to design home interiors and did window treatments and such, but now she’s banking designing pools. Don’t sell yourself short; what you do is amazing!
BWAHAHA! Well, other then the fact she hasn’t come to work the past 14 days. Yes 14 days.
She had her vacation that pushed mine out an additional week. THEN she said someone in her family died… yet she has been on Snapchat and Facebook all week at the beach, riding bikes, at a carnival or parade or something, a concert, and the movies with her kids… She weaseled her way to NOT work on Tax Free weekend, which was supposed to be a no exceptions MUST work holiday. I worked 2 doubles because she bailed… my vacation was supposed to start tomorrow and now I’m working until next Monday because she’s still out on leave until then. If someone actually died, I’m sorry for her and her family, but she seems to be having a great time and very much NOT in mourning. It’s supposed to be 1 day bereavement for relatives and 3 days for immediate family and as far as I can tell from what I have read on Facebook, this kid isn’t even related to her and she got a week of PAID. She’s worked 4 days TOTAL in the entire month of August.
And in the meantime I just got the crack down at work. They are setting impossible goals for us and pressuring us to the point they want us (on our own time, I get paid by the hour not on salary) to go to local real estate agencies, open house events, etc. and try to engage with relators either in person, phone calls, or emails to get them to come shop at Lowe’s for their clients kitchens and what not. They want me to set up social media accounts showcasing my designs with contact information and stuff like that…. it’s like NO. I’m not an entrepreneur and running my own kitchen design business. I work for a fortune 500 company. It’s YOUR job to bring ME customers. I don’t work on commission so stop treating me like I do. So… I don’t know how much longer I am gonna keep dealing with this. I have applied for a few jobs so far but gotten nothing but spam calls or folks calling about my resume but only wanting to position me in something completely unrelated to my skill set at either part time hours or minimum wage.
AND more good news on top of all that. I finally started feeling SOME relief for my back from the chiropractor visits. I went 8 times in June and got a $137 bill. Okay, that was cool. I went only 4 times in July and just received the bill from that month, $579! I was like WHAT!? I called and they told me my running balance through August (only had 3 visits so far this month) is over a THOUSAND DOLLARS! I was like nope, cancel all my appointments! You’re insane! Apparently my insurance company sent a bunch of chargebacks because they won’t cover 80% of my vists. Mind you if I used NO insurance and paid out of pocket it’s 40 bucks a visit.
That’s 15 visits at $40 per visit which is $600 bucks if I used NO insurance at all. *bangs head against desk* I don’t understand out heath system at all. How the hell can people even afford to get help with their sick or in pain? I’m taking out stock in Icy Hot pretty soon because I literally have to wear the patches 24 hours a day now. I smell like I bathe in menthol.

But, take heart dear friend because things will not always be this way and I bet they’re going to change when you least expect it!! I have been praying my hardest for things to change for you because no one should have to deal with that much all at once!!
Her excuse is the oldest one in the book to use to get out of work and shame on her for abusing somebody’s death for her own personal gain. And shame on her for leaving a teammate high and dry on probably one of the busiest days besides Black Friday!
They must be high on drugs if they think an hourly worker is going to jump through hoops and do all that without overtime pay. Screw that!! If that was in your contractual agreement and you were paid and designated as such, we’ll talk; other than that, keep walking.
I wonder if you could patent your own designs? You should probably make copies of your designs or save them to a hard drive or print them out and put them in a scrap book so you’ll have examples to take on interviews. Just a quick ADD thought.
How old do you think satan is? She must be pretty young or what the new term “millennial” is. They think they can do whatever they want without consideration to others or without worrying about consequences. I hate to sound old and bitter, and not all are like that, but a majority make my blood boil.

3 more hours… 3 more hours and then I’m off for a week! That’s all I keep telling myself. I have to get two fillings tomorrow which my stomach is in knots about, but AT LEAST I WON’T BE HERE! BWAHAHAHA
