    Hi y’all!

I was encouraged by the lovely Bodine to share some of my work, so here is a link to my art:

I am also active on Instagram and Twitter under the same name.

I graduated with a BFA in Illustration in 2017, and it’s been my dream to work as an artist since I was a kid. I was originally an animator, but I did not enjoy working with the programs and the style of animation we focus on now (very much into 2D). That prompted me to switch into Illustration, which was a far better fit and feel for my work, and I haven’t looked back since. My focus is on fantasy and creatures, which is why it was amazing for me to find Windstone and have it resonate with me so much. I primarily work with my hands, traditionally, utilizing watercolors and inks mainly. I started my first big job June 25th as a Graphic Artist at FELD Entertainment. So, during the day from 9-5 I am doing that, but by night and the weekends (mainly), I work in my studio (from home) on 3 books I’m in the process of creating, along with freelance and personal illustration work. I’m originally from Texas, born and raised, went to school in Florida and am now moved and currently living here still. I think that’s about it for my backstory for the time being. Thanks for having me, and I hope you enjoy my work! =^-^=

    Kind regards,

    Gina (Cilantress)

Beautiful illustration work! I love your style. I can relate with the animation thing. I originally wanted to be an animator, until I learned 2-d was no longer the preferred choice for animation. It’s such a shame. It takes away the humanity and individual style of animation. Current computer animated characters look about the same, like weird plastic-type dolls with interchangeable Mr. Potato Head-like features. Congrats on your career and I wish you the best in achieving your dreams and goals. It can be tough being an artist and finding your way, but you have a great start.

Thank you so much Dragoneer_88! And I agree completely, I can’t stand much of 3D animation anymore. When it was first coming out, it was innovative, creative, fun, new, and so on. But it’s just as you say, it’s repetitive, the style is very much the same for every studio, the jokes are the same, etc. And thank you again! Things are hard, as I’ve had to put a lot of my own projects and stories on hold since my day job is requiring all of my attention and work since it’s the busy season. 🙁

I also heard animation is like a high school clique. Since everyone is working on the same project you’re essentially a cog in the wheel and if you don’t fit in with the rest you’re toast, unfortunately. 😑

Maybe you could try to build up some connections in the industry while you’re working in house so you could eventually move into full-time freelance work and have more time for your own projects? Have you seen youtube vids by Will Terry? He’s a freelance children’s book illustrator and he does quite well. Of course it took him a bit of time to get to where he’s at in his career, but it’s possible to make it solely freelancing.
