Thanks everyone 🙂 Yeah, last time I sculpted something was in third grade. Oh, and it was a cat. 😳 Funny how some things never change! I have the wire armature(?) just about done for the next one. Boy did I learn a lot on this first one that the next one should definitely be an improvement. I think it also gives me a much MUCH greater appreciation for Melody’s work!!

By the way… for the next one I want to use eyes embedded in it. Someone suggested to me to use ball bearings. But I don’t think I could paint those and it would be weird/creepy with just silvery eyes. Not sure how glass would hold up in the oven? Any other ideas?

That cat sculpture is really cool! I love it 😀 . Is it done in a polymer clay? If it is, baking the glass eyes in, I do that all the time 😉 . There are a few things to keep in mind when you do this though. First, you have to make sure the colors on or in the glass will take the heat needed to cure the clay. Most can because they are painted with an enamel that requires baking to make the color permanent on the glass. I tend to buy my glass eyes from this sight and have had pretty good luck with them. http://www.vandykestaxidermy.com/category/glass-eyes
I also like to use marbles, both the round and flattened ones. They also can take the heat of a oven and have an interesting look to them – especially the aurora colored ones.
Second, you need to make sure the glass eyes are very clean before you bake the sculpture. They should be free from fingerprints and clay residue, because sometimes those residues can be baked on the the glass and become a nasty film on the eyes that can be permanent. This doesn’t always happen, but it’s better to be safe than sorry 😉 .
Hope that helps. Good luck on your next sculpt!
