Sorry for the lousy pics.
This is my first blooming of the cloud/rainforest orchid genus Gongora; it is the species tricolor. Not the easiest to grow- wants lots of humidity and moisture. I have another Gongora (gratulabunda) in spike now too if I don’t break off the spike like I did its last 2 attempts. Strong fragrance, but not really pleasant, sort of sickly sweet like some sort of syrup. They evolved as wasp mimics, but to me they look like tiny dragons. That’s why I got them, they’re so cool!
That’s wonderful – thanks for posting photos. 🙂 I was shocked when I found out that vanilla comes from an orchid. I wonder what that one smells like?
