I remember Ms. Melody mentioning these several years ago, but not really anything about them. Playing around today, I discovered the gashopon goldfish and fell in love! I lost my beloved Snotface a couple years ago and can’t have any where I am now- goldfish require BIG tanks and bigger filters, and LOTS of water changes, which just isn’t possible here. These little figures are AWESOME though, I’d love to start collecting the goldfish ones when I can!
They are also under the names Kaiyodo, Yujin, Takara and Tomy from what I’ve found, and are vending machine prizes in Japan apparently. (why can’t we have cool things like this here, instead of just cheesy cheap things and candy?)
So does anyone here collect them, of any species? It’d be great to show them off!

(Completely off topic, does anyone know of/remember a porcelain ryukin goldfish figurine back in the ’80s, I think from Danbury Mint or Franklin Mint? I had one I treasured, but the cats took care of it. I haven’t been able to find any info on it anywhere.)

Playing with keywords turned up this figurine on etsy, allegedly from the Franklin Mint. Don’t know if it is what you are looking for!

        https://www.etsy.com/listing/197699992/miniature-goldfish-by-masters-franklin?ref=market

From the listing description: “This brilliant, miniature Goldfish by the Masters Pottery Company is part of the Franklin Mint’s “Treasures of the World’s Greatest Porcelain Houses.” Masters Pottery is located in Japan and is known for its sculptures and ornaments.”

I’ve got about 24 of the Yujin goldfish and they are magnificent! I don’t know how many others are out there… but I know there are a few I don’t have yet. They are not easy to find. The best place to look is ebay.

Thanks Etruscan and Ms. Melody! The Masters figurine isn’t it, Etruscan, I did see that one… one from a company called Rosenthal I found is similar, but not it. This one was red and white (like the Masters and a little the Rosenthal ones), had a more matte finish if I’m remembering it right, and like the Rosenthal one was sculpted swimming in vallisneria. I remember the grass as being molded separate from the fish and metal/porcelain base; when they shattered the grass was metal strips, which had supported the fish. It had a wooden platform under the base but it isn’t marked, I still have that and it fits a lap dragon almost just right. I can’t get it if I found it anyhow, but I’d love to find out what it was for someday.

Thanks also Ms. Melody, I’d found the ebay figures (I go there a lot just to look for images of things, like it was a search engine). Unfortunately I can’t do anything now, I haven’t been able to get the surgery I need to drive or to find any job at all doing whatever, so yeah not even a gift for my daughter here except for a cheesy handpainted shirt I made. I just thought to enjoy other’s from afar, like with the pebbles and baby poads. I know not so many will love goldfish but I think they make many kinds of animals, along with anime characters and suchlike.

I’ve never heard of these but after googling them, wow, those “toy” fishes are beautiful.

Thanks to Ms. Melody’s wondrous kindness and generosity I now have 2 Yujin goldfish! Yay! I’m still gushing over them.

And after several years of intermittent searching, I finally have a name for the destroyed figurine! It’s ‘The Golden Carp’ by William Kazmar for Franklin Mint. So now I can replace it one day.

                Today was a happy day.

These are Safari brand little comets, I made the base so they’d match the gashapon fish better (and painted them so they weren’t quite so garish). For less than $2 for the two fish and some on hand makings, I’m pretty happy with it.
