So I recently purchased a Black-Gold Mother dragon, loved the colors of this sculpt. The seller was asking $105 or make an offer, and I offered $75 and they accepted my offer.
So today I finally got her in the mail… and low-n-behold… its not a Black-gold mother !
Rather it appears to be a Copper Patina mother, with red eyes. She seems in perfect condition from what I can tell, felt is in like-new shape, and the tag is still attached (string is under the felt bottom). Pena engraving on her back/lower bottom is dated 1985, date on tag says copyright 2009.
So is this a REAL windstone? I tried to find info on her, but all I see are Copper Patina’s with teal eyes, not the red ones. I tried to google more info, and checked out astral’s list, but again, found nothing. Im not sure what to do with her yet, and I have not contacted the seller over this issue yet either. Mind you, I do like the Black-gold windstone more, but I really dont want to go through the hassle of shipping this one back etc etc. I would like some input on what others think, and what the value of this windstone is, compared to the black-gold.
Once I know more, I will know what steps to take when I contact the seller over this issue.
August 21, 2014 at 12:26 am #917718There were red eyed copper patinas (as well as teal eyed), but they were limited production (only available direct from windstone) so astral castle won’t have the in the encyclopedia (they only list regular production pieces).
August 21, 2014 at 12:30 am #917717The original Copper Patina dragons had red eyes, so your girl should be genuine.
I didn’t find a CP mother dragon in the ravnheart database, but there is a photo of an oriental:
Remember, the amount of patina and shading on the Copper Patina pieces can vary a lot, so don’t worry if the mother dragon doesn’t really match this guy.
August 21, 2014 at 12:31 am #917719The red-eyed copper patinas were much more limited in production, where black gold is still an active production color – so this one is probably more ‘valuable’ from a rarity stand point.
But, regardless, you should see about getting a partial refund at least since it isn’t what you wanted! 🙂
August 21, 2014 at 12:56 am #917722Ok, thanks everyone ! I do like the look of this Sculpt, and knowing she is rarer makes me want to keep her. I do plan on contacting the seller, right after this post actually. Im going to let them know their error, and see how they want to proceed. I am still disappointed though that I did not get the black-gold female, who I liked a lot more than this one… and I was even trying to buy a BG Male from someone I know who was selling one, to go with her. *sigh*
Here are a few pics of my new CP Mother 🙂
August 21, 2014 at 1:12 am #917724If you like the black gold one more, why not list this one for sale on here or on ebay for more than you paid to cover shipping and then buy the black gold ones? I am sure someone else would buy this one especially if it is more rare.
Looking for rainbow or pink & teal grab bags!
August 21, 2014 at 1:23 am #917726Thats an idea, but I do like this one as well. I figure she was meant to be mine 😉 I have already grown attached to her, and so has my Green Male, lol ! I figure I will get the Black-Gold someday… my collection is just begining 🙂
August 21, 2014 at 1:25 am #917721They actually still have the CP one listed: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/WINDSTONE-EDITIONS-Copper-Patina-Mother-Dragon-Sculpture-PENA-Mint-w-Tag-Fantasy-/141347318328?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_2&hash=item20e8f4ea38
At the same price as the BG was originally listed. Just confusion on their part looks like.
Hmm, like Kiya said, the red eyed Copper Patina is the rarer/more valuable of the two. Whatever you decide to do though, it would be good to inform them of the mistake so that no one buys the no-longer-available CP.
August 21, 2014 at 1:31 am #917727I like your attitude. You may not have gotten what you wanted but you scored a really nice Patina. I haven’t seen such a nice-looking Mother in eBay in quite some time. I hope you really enjoy her!
Finding happiness again.

Thanks 😉 She is mint ! You know I wouldnt mind buying Windstones blind-folded, and not knowing what one gets until you open the box would be fun! (As long as its mint and not one you own already ;)) Kinda like Grab Bag buys… you dont know what you get until you open it! Surprises like that are always fun 😛
August 21, 2014 at 2:12 am #917729You got one with amethyst antique and individualy hand-painted gold scales. Those are my favorite. Not many were made like that, maybe only one or two batches.
August 21, 2014 at 2:44 am #917730Hi, you could also buy the copper mother dragon from the same seller and you know you would get the black gold mother. Then you would have both. 🙂

Ooooo…. good to know ! Thanks for this information !
And kelseyslk, thats a good idea, lol ! If I had thought of this before I had messaged the seller, I would have tried doing this to see what happened, lmao! 😛

I have one like this, too. She really shimmers and sparkles. I never realized how special she is. Thanks, Pam.
