    As if there aren’t enough of these already… I am completely losing faith in ebay. What do we pay them for, anyway? Certainly not customer service..

    Anyway, I bought a Game Cube game a couple of weeks ago that was marked as “Like New”. For those of you who aren’t familiar with ebay’s categories on items, “Like New” means it looks like the item was just bought, as if it was just taken out of the shrink wrap. There’s to be no damage to the item and it should appear (other than not being in original packaging) to be brand new. Well, I got this game in the mail and the first thing I noticed was the giant “USED” sticker on the front, telling the price of the used game – it looked like it came from Game Stop or Babbage’s or something of the like. Oh well, I thought, and opened it with high hopes! Well, the game itself was not only dirty (some gross dirty stuff on the back) but also scratched to high heaven.

    I immediately contacted the seller after making sure that they had the item listed as “Like New”, cause I know I make mistakes and could have bid on something that was “Used” and not payed enough attention to the condition of it. Well the seller came back at me with some ridiculous message, saying that since the game was older (it was first made in maybe 2002) that this condition WAS considered “Like New” (coughBScough). He also told me that I was SOL as far as him helping goes because he was not going to do a thing.

    So I did what any normal person would do – I started a ticket on ebay about the item. Eventually they gave me a refund, though they didn’t charge the seller. I gave him negative feedback because my experience with him was a negative one – he was unwilling to help me with my problem and he sent me a defective product.

    Here’s where it gets good: He started harassing me. He’s sent me about a dozen emails now threatening me, telling me that he’s going to report me as a scammer, give me negative feedback, etc if I don’t remove the negative feedback I gave him. He’s called me pathetic for even opening a ticket about it, and now it’s just degraded into name-calling and him being bullheaded about the condition of the item he sent me (he accuses me of “mishandling” the disc and ruining it myself), citing his “reputation” and saying that is proof that he did nothing wrong.

    Well, regardless of his positive feedback before I had a negative experience and I was going to be completely honest about it. I am not going to cater to sellers on ebay just because they threaten me – ESPECIALLY not because of that! But now, I have reported him to ebay several times, and EVERY email he sends me I report as harassment, but ebay has yet to do a thing about it. In the mean time he continues to send me degrading messages. And this all over a $5.00 game. This person should NOT be allowed to sell to people with this horrible attitude, but I can’t even seem to get a response from ebay about it, let alone get his account suspended. What should I do? Do I have any other line of defense, or am I up **** creek without a paddle?

      You are definitely NOT up a creek without a paddle. Go to the contact section on ebay and talk to a worker there it’ll be easier and fast to get the ball rolling. Plus his negative feedback won’t really effect you as a seller or a buyer. It’s one negative out of how many positive. His reaction says guilt to me more then anything. Block his e-mail on both ebay and your personal. Drink some tea and remember whatever this person tries to give you in harassment you don’t have to except at all and it doesn’t reflect on you as a person.

      Aha! I didn’t even see the “Call us” option – thank you grayfire!! And thanks for the kind words 🙂 I definitely need to take a step back and de-stress from this, I don’t take people insulting me very well and it’s been impacting me way too much. Thank you <3

        If you need take a bath have some tea and when ever your mind floats back to the issue at hand, stop tell you mind now and refocus. It isn’t easy but with practice I have found that it helps a lot. 😀

          Make sure to keep copies of all his communications. You may have standing with non-ebay authorities (i.e., police) if the harassment continues or specific threats are made.

          Oh I definitely am! Thankfully it has not erupted into actual physical threats (yet), he keeps threatening “bad feedback” (sellers cant actually give bad feedback so unless there’s some secret seller area that I don’t know about then he’s just BSing), or reporting me to ebay for being a “scammer” (I actually snorted when I read that one..) as well as telling me he is complaining to ebay about me and that “all this will stop if you remove your negative feedback”. So even though he’s not threatening physical violence or anything, he’s still saying “If you dont… Then I will…”, which as far as I know still counts as a very real and very against-the-rules type of threat.

          I’m at work right now but I’ll be calling ebay once I get out of work tonight. I was surpised to see that their phone lines are open til 10pm PST – that’s 1:00am for me! I definitely have time to do it before they close 🙂

            Keep us posted, I’ll be interested to know how this turns out. I hope ebay takes action, this seller is so obviously full of it!

              you go Hannah,
              I had the SAME thing happen to me and ebay not only gave me my $$ back they sent me a lable to return the item and suspended her account. Just keep all your transactions with him. Ebay will take care of him.

                “all this will stop if you remove your negative feedback”.

                He may not realize it, but right there is where he flat out ADMITS he is harassing and threatening you. Save that email especially.

                Aside from verbally harassing you there is not a lot more he can do. And you’re taking the high road which is good. I say you sit back, take a deep breath, and laugh your ass off at him.

                You’re in the clear as long as you do not start harassing him back. Be calm and do not return insults. Just continue going through the proper channels with ebay, even if it’s frustrating.

                Although if it were me, I’d go back and write FOLLOW-UP bad feedback for him under your original feedback if possible. Not insults, just facts. “Seller has continued to harass me while I try to resolve the issue with him and ebay.”

I explained the problem, and they said they’d look into it. Since all of our correspondences have been through ebay themselves I can’t personally see why they wouldn’t suspend this guy’s account.

                Unfortunately, as the seller in question himself said “ebay won’t do anything, don’t you know they need sellers to keep the business running?” – which I fear is right. I’ll be checking on his account periodically to see if he’s been suspended but I don’t hold out much hope.

                I think ebay is losing it, and they’ve definitely lost me.

I explained the problem, and they said they’d look into it. Since all of our correspondences have been through ebay themselves I can’t personally see why they wouldn’t suspend this guy’s account.

                  Unfortunately, as the seller in question himself said “ebay won’t do anything, don’t you know they need sellers to keep the business running?” – which I fear is right. I’ll be checking on his account periodically to see if he’s been suspended but I don’t hold out much hope.

                  I think ebay is losing it, and they’ve definitely lost me.

                  oh that’s a bunch of bs they have so many sellers/buyers that they wiiiiiilllll ban his butt for the type harassment he has given you.

                    He is not still harassing me – but I wonder if he is still trying. Ebay did successfully block him from sending me any more messages.

                    I really hope that this type of thing just takes a few weeks to go through.. I’ll be so disappointed if he gets away with this scot free..
