    Hi Melody!

I was just thinking today, how you generally make “mates” for your statues, and I was going through them in my head – Male & Mother, Hatching Emperor & Empress, Sitting & Rising Spectrals, even the Coiled and Curled seem to go together to me! I realize that some dragons don’t have an exact mate (Lap and OW probably could be considered a “pair” due to their similarity in stance and that they’re facing opposite directions), but I was wondering if you’ve ever given thought to making an Empress dragon to go with the Emperor?

Once I went through that list I also thought “Gee, the Secret Keeper doesn’t have a mate either!” though I’m not holding my breath for that one (I’d still love to see more SK’s in general!), I still wonder what you would come up with for a mate for the Emperor.

Melody once said that she started making an empress to go with the emperor, but the more she worked on the sculpt, it took on a male look to it-and it became the old warrior. 🙂

I always sot of thought the Scratcher and the Lap went together and the Old Warrior was the “male” and the emperor was the “female” I know it’s not quite right, but that’s just how I think of ’em.

Wolfen – that makes sense! Now that I look at the OW in your sig, it does have a slightly “feminine” cast to it, if you can really tell with dragons 😀

(also on another unrelated note – what color is that OW in your sig?! gorrrrgeous!)

Drag0n – I actually had to think about it when I was “pairing” up some of the dragons in my head – the Lap and the OW in particular I didn’t even really think of as a pair until I actually went and looked at their pictures and saw that they can be placed to face each other – and that the Lap definitely looks more feminine to me than the OW does.

I tried to find the thread for you, Hannah, but I’m not great with searches.

The OW in my sig is the Brown Autumn Leaf coloration which was auctioned off on ebay in October 2010. I’m hoping Melody will paint another one! 🙂

The story goes that the Old Warrior was supposed to be the Empress, mate to the Emperor (male), but things didn’t work out and the “Empress” got a sex change.

That is definitely an interesting story, thanks for filling me in 🙂 I do love hearing about how things came to be.

Not all of them have “mates”. Both spectrals are males according to Melody, as are all the orientals.

This was discussed before you came to the forum. My opinion is, I see them as statues, and nothing more. I see the male, mother, and hatching as just that. A male, A mother, and A hatching. I know I’m one of the few that don’t “pair” up the sculptures, but I just don’t see a point.

To me, I don’t think all the sculptures need to have a “counterpart”.

I consider the Male, Female, Hatchling and Young dragon as nuclear family with the Emperor as maybe an older extended family member.
Then there are the clans: the Spectrals, the horned dragons and the orientals.
I kinda had it in my head that the royal babies: the three big hatchers and the fledgie were children of the Keeper dragon

That makes sense. I always wondered who the royal hatchers were supposed to go with…. but those are still pretty big eggs to come from you know where. Does that mean dragons end up look more like pregnant people when they have babies rather than like chickens where you can’t tell?

                    Dragons are like kiwi birds.

Is this the same for the mother pegasus? I’ve always wondered how she could lay that egg…

There is probably room in a SK for an egg that size -yeah like kiwi birds-
The hatching Pegasus wasn’t really intended as part of the Pegasus family, it was a stand-alone sculpture, but people lump them together.

Umm . . . easy explanation as to how the Pegasus could lay an egg that size: magic! 😉
