Ok so I had my ob appointment today and they said I’m 3 1/2cm dialated and 80% effaced. My doctor asked if I wanted to be induced. I was like “I didn’t know that was an option”. I figured it was for people who are well beyond there due date or are having issues. She said it was up to me and they could schedule it whenever I wanted. I had never thought about it and Danny was all for it. He said just make it for next week since thats when she is due anyway. I had them go ahead and schedule it for the 16th but I still don’t know. I’m not having any issues besides being sick of being pregnant. Is this using technology for the wrong reasons? I really don’t know what to do. I figure I can always cancel the induction but I still am not sure if I want to go thru with it or not. Has anyone here gone thru this?

January 10, 2008 at 11:27 pm #654878My sister in law did but that was because my niece wasn’t moving enough.
But from the sounds of it, your body is pretty much ready to go, just a little someone doesn’t want to come out. I don’t see that as abusing the available technology. I’m sure if there was another person with an emergency or something that they would tell you that the procedure has to be postponed. And this way you know exactly when you’re going to deliver and won’t have to run around like a madwoman trying to remember what all you have to bring to the hospital.
January 10, 2008 at 11:31 pm #654879I was induced but still ended up having a c-sec. The induction makes everything come faster and the pain is on top of pain and contractions on top of contractions. Its all up to you.
January 10, 2008 at 11:36 pm #654880Once again, IS this your first child? I am guessing yes… All it does is make the labor come on and from what I hear… its a little more intence than regular labor. I wouldn’t do it unless you carry late… If you are at 3 1/2 centiments and efaced 80%… I am guessing you’ll have her before the 16th…. 😉
But the body is a fun intresting thing.
January 10, 2008 at 11:42 pm #654881Sorry, yes this is my first. I’m trying every wives tale in the book to make her come out before then. I know being induced will make the pain alot worse. Thats why if I do go that route I’m just going to get an epidural rather then wait for one like I was going to try if I did it on my own. I have alot to think about lol.
January 10, 2008 at 11:46 pm #654882I know I will NEVER be giving birth but I have ALWAYS thought it was better to let mother nature do her job. You have to remember your daughter is still developing. I was born with what doctors have called a spot in my right eye. They told me it happened because my right eye never completely developed before I was born. I was adpoted so I can’t ask anyone about my birth or if I was premature of anything like that. I wonder if you can damage your daughter by having her early??
January 10, 2008 at 11:52 pm #654883My friend had her second child recently; her doctor wanted her to get induced, but she refused because everyone she knew who had been induced needed a c-section. If you’re fine, let nature run its course.
My friend waited; the baby was a bit late, but she came and was delivered naturally, just like her older brother, no problems for either the mom or the baby.

http://www.sarahjestin.com/feedbacklists.htmJanuary 10, 2008 at 11:56 pm #654884Well, normally I wouldn’t say anything, but you did ask, so, my advice is not to get induced. I was at 3 cm 80% effaced w/my 2nd for over 2 weeks (2 very looooong weeks…), so that doesn’t necessarily mean you’re ready to go. Most of the people I know who were induced without being in labor had pretty rough labors. Your daughter will come! However, this is just my opinion; whatever you decide will be the right thing for you, and that’s all that counts. 🙂
January 11, 2008 at 12:39 am #654885I can speak from experience. I was induced because my water broke and I didn’t have any labor. I was in end stage labor for almost 24 hrs! I would not recommend it if you do not need it! 😯
January 11, 2008 at 1:22 am #654886I had to be induced all three times. I dilated and effaced and just stayed there…I say go for it. The first time I didn’t want to be dilated and I put it off against the doctor’s advice. He was my first baby and I was a nervous wreck where I’d had a miscarraige before. I went 3 1/2 weeks over before my doc said no more…he just stayed in there, gaining weight, until I barely had him naturally. I tore horribly and had to be sewn back up. He was 9 lbs 1 oz. Now I know you’ll hear women say that they popped out a 10 pounder no problem but it all depends on your body type. If you trust your doctor, I’d take their advice. Both my girls had to be induced too, right on their due dates. It’s not a bad experience, if you want a play by play of what to expect, pm me! I’d be happy to share.
January 11, 2008 at 1:27 am #654887I don’t know the more I read about induction the more I don’t like it. I trust my ob and my husband keeps saying its ok but I just don’t know. I’m going to make up my mind next week. I figure I’ll give myself the weekend to think about it and depending on how I feel I may or may not go thru with it. I’m a swollen mess right now and can’t move much or sleep. I think thats half the reason they want to induce me.
January 11, 2008 at 1:31 am #654888The end of a pregnancy is always difficult; you feel so out of sorts with your body!
Give your body time, though. I would at least wait until the due date, maybe a week or so over before going for the induction.
Take a deep breath (well, not too big if you’re anything like I was – couldn’t go up the stairs without huffing and puffing my lungs were so squished) and relaaaaax. I know, that’s easy to say!

http://www.sarahjestin.com/feedbacklists.htmJanuary 11, 2008 at 1:33 am #654889The doctor is not only taking the baby into account but you as well. They may be concerned about injury to you during labor, this being your first. It’s also possible that they may have concerns about the baby having its first bowel movement en-utero, and that being inhaled into the lungs…this happened with my son, they had to suction out his airway. His collarbone also broke when he came out, due to my/his size (big baby, small mommy). There are alot of factors…I don’t really know which ones your doctor is basing their opinion off of. Just take care and let us know. 🙂
