I have been looking for a gift for my b/f’s birthday. Needed to be something inexpensive but nice. He loves insects. I found the most BEAUTIFUL soapstone cicada on ebay. I mean this thing looked REAL.. And it was only $22!! So I bought it. Well, it arrived today smashed to pieces. ALL those beautiful delicate legs are now crumbs. 😥 The GOOD news is that is was the wrong cicada! The seller had 3, and he sent me the wrong one. I purchased the cicada in his 3rd listing and he sent me the one in the first listing. I emailed the seller and HOPEFULLY they will agree to send me the item I ACTUALLY PURCHASED!!! Grrrrr! 😡 And hopefully it will get here in one piece! My b/f’s birthday is on the 30th and I want it to be special. He has had things very rough lately. I have tried looking everywhere for more soapstone cicadas incase I can’t get one intact from this seller, but have had no luck. The cidada that I did get has absolutely no maker’s marks whatsoever. I have no clue where it came from or where I would find another. The seller just collects junk and sells it, so I doubt they know either. I just hope this all works out..
B-day card buying has been dissasterous too. I can’t find any romantic cards that I like, so I have been trying to make my own online. I have tried Zazzle, Shutterfly, and KodakGallery, and they all give me error messages when I try to upload pictures onto the card. 😥September 17, 2007 at 9:40 pm #492643September 17, 2007 at 10:03 pm #617740I’m sorry Pam! I hope you get the right one and it comes intact! As for cards, I love the Leanin Tree cards, good luck 🙂
September 17, 2007 at 10:08 pm #617741That sucks, hope you get a good replacement.
September 17, 2007 at 11:07 pm #617742Sorry about the mix-up 🙁 Hopefully you get the right one in time for his birthday!
September 18, 2007 at 1:39 am #617743Best of luck. Will the seller try to charge you for the broken one?? I hoep not!
September 18, 2007 at 3:00 am #617744Good luck in getting the correct carving in one piece this time!

I don’t know.. I emailed explaining the situation, that the piece was broken and it was the wrong one anyway, and they just wrote back “return it”. They have something like a 99.96% possitive selling rating though, and are a power seller, so I don’t think the’ll give me too much trouble about it.. I hope.
September 18, 2007 at 4:48 am #617746Good luck, Pam. I hope they’re agreeable. And an early happy birthday to your bf.
September 18, 2007 at 8:16 am #617747Good luck and I hope they are agreeable, too. Let us know if the right one comes intact.
September 18, 2007 at 9:13 am #617748I wrote again to make sure that I was getting the right piece, and he wrote back: “i have around 250 different carved stones, to give you the exact one you want is impossible………the one you recieved is a locust, if someting is a little different that the photo, i can not help that. each one has its own look”
He also seemed perplexed that it broke, and said he knew of no way it could have broken 🙄 You should see this thing, the legs are incredibly intricate and delicate! I can see how it might have gotten broken, considering the way packages are treated in shipping.
I wrote back again practically begging for him to at least try to find the particular piece that was pictured in the listing I won, and even offered to pay extra for it! Here it is: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280142520240 . I want THAT one. Am I being to picky for insisting on having that particular piece?? It’s what I paid for, its what I thought I was getting! He had two other listings for soapstone “locusts” (they’re cicadas really) and each had a picture of a different piece. Of the three, this one was my absolute fav. IMO, if he is not going to deliver what was pictured, he should mention it in the listing, and maybe even combine all the listings into one, instead of having a seperate listing for each piece (which implies that should you win that piece, you will get the specific one pictured). Am I making sense here?
The cicada that he sent me was actually the one pictured in THIS listing: http://cgi.ebay.com/HAND-CARVED-SOAPSTONE-NATURE-SCULPTURE-LOCUST-GIFT-BOX_W0QQitemZ280142520227QQihZ018QQcategoryZ553QQcmdZViewItem
I feel like screaming..
September 18, 2007 at 9:31 am #617749That is crap! You should get what is pictured. I would back out, get a refund and leave bad feedback. 👿
September 18, 2007 at 10:17 am #617750I hope you get what you paid for in the end
September 18, 2007 at 1:42 pm #617751Aaaack! You should definately get the piece you bid on! That whole thing about feedback in the description is kinda bizarre too…
September 18, 2007 at 2:03 pm #617752I hope the seller makes good and gives you the one you bid on. It’s really annoying to win something and then receive something “similar”:-/
I agree, purplecat…the feedback thing is odd. I don’t see how not receiving feedback will keep things private, since you can search by bidder anyway.
