You know how I was saying how much I hoped that a spider didn’t get my baby daughter after what happened to me a couple weeks ago? I guess I jinxed her.
She is in the hospital now, with a massive abcess in her groin. We’ve been there since Thurs. The bite was showing on Tues, by Thurs afternoon her temp was sky high (104) and it was obvious an abcess was forming.
Last night around 11pm they did minor surgery to lance it and it looks 100% better and she is feeling much better as well, despite the now 2 inch incision in her groin area. Temp is normal and she is finally disconnected from the IV lines and crap and is able to run around the room freely.
I am only home real quick to take a quick shower and grab a few things here before going back. Her Grandma is with her for now. We hope to be released tomorrow.
I missed another day of work because of a spider, and on top of that it made my poor little girl really sick, and with the medical bills and lost wages I figure we’ve lost about $4K to all this. There went my SK! (joke)
We’re bombing the house today, after today there will be no more damn spiders in this house, I don’t care how beneficial some are, the ones biting us are definately not!
Anyway, in case you guys were wondering where I disappeared to, that is it. Hope to be back to chatting an all by Monday.
Take care meantime! All well wishes appreciated.
Thanks guys!
Kyrin

August 4, 2007 at 5:45 pm #605896So sorry to hear that–poor little girl! 🙁 I hope she doesn’t remember any of it.
August 4, 2007 at 8:22 pm #605897So sorry to hear that. 🙁 I live in Florida and I used to catch alligators at 2 in the morning with my hands, but if I see a spider in the middle of the day I will run.
August 4, 2007 at 8:31 pm #605898Sorry to hear about your little girl and I hope she is home and feeling OK again soon those spiders can be nasty
August 4, 2007 at 10:47 pm #605899Thats lousy luck. I’m sorry about your little one. After you bomb the house, you might want to look around for some of the ultrasonic pest control devices. I’ve never had your problems with spiders, but I used to get invaded with roaches. The ultrasonic pest things shased them all away, and I don’t seem to remember many spiders either. Just something to look into. Hope you both feel better soon.
August 5, 2007 at 1:16 am #605900In my original post, I forgot to wish your daughter a speedy recovery and tell you to use Hibiclens (red liquid soap you can get at pharmacy to avoid skin infections) at least when she first gets home. Wishing you well!!
Are you sure it is a Spider? Did you ask the doctor if he cultured the wound? The reason I am asking is because people all over the US blame these type of abcesses on spiders. And usually it is a skin infection cause by methicillin resistant staph aureus.
Let me explain why bombing your house may not prevent this from happeneing again…
There are two types of poisonous spiders and they are both very rare!
This website describes what they look like and what types of bites they cause….neither one causes “abcesses”
http://www.emedicine.com/wild/topic53.htm
An MRSA abcess occurs when a person has a breach in their skin, like a scratch or a mosquito bite and t gets infetced with Staph bacteria from their own skin.
Here is an article:http://www.shands.org/health/Health%20Illustrated%20Encyclopedia/1/007261.htm
Please take time to look at this. I don’t think you or your daughter were bitten by poisonous spiders. This misconception has caused a hysteria about beneficial spiders that doesn’t help the average person prevent abcesses.
These MRSA abcesses usually form in moist areas, like groin, around the waist where your pants rub, under arms, under breasts, sometimes even in the nose.
A mosquito bite can cause a bug bite appearance and then the abcess develops and people say..”OMG a spider bit me” Spider bites cause neurologic symptoms and necrosis or death of skin which causes the sskin to turn black and slough off.
Please make sure your physician cultures that stuff in your babies wound…he probably has…ask him about staph infections. And don’t worry about bombing your house…..
Here is the CDC web site about MRSA
August 5, 2007 at 1:38 am #605901I think I’d still bomb the house anyway!!
I did when I moved to my condo since I did not know if the existing cat had fleas and was not going to take any chances anywayBUT:
This is very good infromation to knowI hope both you and your baby recover very fast
August 5, 2007 at 2:02 am #605902Sorry your little girl got bitten, Kyrin. I hope she recovers well. Good luck getting rid of the spiders.

This is very true. I’ve seen a brown recluse bite in person. It didn’t abcess at all.

August 5, 2007 at 2:08 pm #605905Kyrin, I’m so sorry! Bad enough that you went through it, it’s always a million times worse when it’s your kid! Glad grandma is there! Hope everyone is better soon. *hugs* & *hot chocolate*

My puppy got bit by a Brown recluse, it abcessed and then turned necrotic.

August 5, 2007 at 6:12 pm #605907Thanks for the info on MRSA, mine was diagnosed as that, but something still caused the initial breech into my system.
Cause of the issue is really irrelevant at this point, and really we have some mean spiders here called the Hobo spider and their bites are painful and cause abcesses and a lot of swelling. So bombing the house won’t hurt.
All that matters now is that this doesn’t happen again, and that Karli is going to be okay. the why’s behind it don’t really make all that much difference at the moment.
Anyway, update, she comes home today.
TTYAL!
