Why will amputating the leg stop the vel from leaving the rest of the body? If the vel has already retreated from the leg, and presumably any connection with the leg has been broken, I would think that amputation would have no effect on the vel.

Oh goodness.Did this page ever rip my heart out.It is the same day I lost Gandalf,he was big like that,change his coloring and he looks like him,minus the horns and it was his hind quarters that caused the injury,I couldn’t save him.Just too close to my heart,made me cry again.Sorry.
It did peak my curiosity though and I will of course keep reading.

It won’t affect the vel, but it is necessary in order to perform the “procedure”.

We had a three legged cat, and she did just fine. She would tear around the house like someone on an jet propelled pogo stick.
