I’d agree that parvo is a much bigger concern than distemper, but you’re right better safe than sorry. Around here, they usually advise 16 weeks, but maybe the high humidity on thop of the heat can extend bugs’ shelf life?
I’ve known of several corgis that weren’t good around other dogs and strange people- they’re of a group that was intended to watch/guard as well as herd. Maybe of you could get him into a puppy class/ supervised socialization group, to help prevent his ‘keepaway’ from going into overdrive? Legitimate groups will require proof of vaccination before they allow anyone to join.
Herding breeds in general tend to be good with members of their family, but they will tend to want to bunch and/or drive those they view as lower on the totem pole. He should end up good with your ferrets, but I wouldn’t leave him alone with them until he’s older and more stable. They are breeds that want their people to be with them all the time, and that want their people to be happy with them- with the intelligence to back it up. I’ve had Australian shephers all my life, and scary-smart and living to please has pretty much defined them. They do need a job to do to occupy their minds and burn energy, though- along with strong guard instincts. We had English mastiffs for many years also, wanted to be with you and to have you happy with them, but rather the opposite of intelligent lol. Most were less ‘guard’ than the Aussies too. My husband had left his Siberian husky (one of the ‘not reseached’ purchases I think) with family members when he moved here, before I met him. He insisted on getting the dog, and it has been all the problem you’ve pointed out. Not a breed to listen or be too concerned with your happiness, which bugs me too. On top of that, high prey drive- has killed 1 of our cats, injured a couple others, and almost killed a hen. He just insists she’s ‘curious’ or that it’s the other animals fault (even the other dogs, which weren’t around), or ours. 🙁
