Certainly there are enough different Windstones to make up a chess set:
male unicorn for the knight
male griffin for the bishop?
a castle for the rook
male and mom foos for the king and queen?
I think that baby dragons would make cute pawnsThe options go on and on!
Tad poads. If someone bumps the board the pebbles will scatter and it will only roll down hill from there…

In briefly thinking, I’m pretty sure I do, but I don’t have the time to put a picture together at the moment. I’ll try and get something together later this fall when things quiet down (and I can ‘make’ a chessboard in the right size… I actually don’t own a chessboard).
I bet that someone with lots of ambition (or way too much time on her hands) could make a Windstone chess set using PYOs:
King – male Foo
Queen – mother Foo
pawns – Foo pups
Knight – kirin (I think the unicorn is too big)
Bishop – dragon

I LOVE this Idea! I think the Foops would make such cute pawns! 😀
I did my own Chess Set when I was in High School ceramics, but my pieces were Sea Mammals (dolphins, and types of whales) and Sharks (types of). They needed a Chess Board of 4×4 inch squares. My colors were Light Blue for the Sea Mammals and Sand (tan) for the Sharks – I still have the pieces, but got rid of the 4×4 tiles long ago. Didn’t have the motivation to make a small porch table and two end tables that would have been the Chess Board. You would put the two end tables together next to the small table to have the complete chess board of matching Light Blue and Sand colored ceramic tiles.

But also a fascinating challenge. Actually, it would be kind of neat if it were a collaborative project between a bunch of the forum pyo artists. And if there was confusion on what to do with the finished set…sell it on eBay and donate the proceeds to a mutually agreed on charity or something.

😀I made a couple chess sets in ceramics class too. Must be a standard project! One had guinea pigs ( standing up in robes) as kings and queens, and mice as pawns… I don’t remember what else. It was a lot of work.

This would be so much fun! Once the pieces are decided on, anyone who wants can volunteer to paint a piece and mail it back to the factory. But maybe then you’d need different sculpts for each side? Or an agreed-upon basic color scheme for each side?

True … the rock that the phoenix sits on was the only “castle-type” thing I could think of from the current selection.
